Spring River Horticulture is a landscape design business that says it was founded in 2020 and offers landscape design, on-site consultations, installation, ongoing maintenance and winter pruning. A 2024 customer in Bristol said Michael Howland's company took on a perennial bed that had deteriorated into a solid mass of weeds and Siberian iris. In that 2024 review, the customer wrote that the plan called for removing the existing soil, replacing it with fresh weed-free soil and compost, and adding a winding fieldstone pathway and perimeter border edging. That 2024 reviewer said the project was completed by the end of October 2022, apart from a few perennials planted in spring 2023. A 2025 customer said Michael removed an old dead tree from the middle of their front yard, replaced it with a live one, and helped guide them to a tree that would last. A 2024 customer said Michael Howland and his landscaping team established a lawn at their new home in Wiscasset. A local blog has also credited the company with building and planting a garden.
“Lynn designed the garden and picked out the plants, Spring River Horticulture built the garden and planted the plants, and I dug and poured the footing (~5 ft. down, below the frost line) and mounted the post for the birdhouse.”
Me and my husband would highly recommend Michael and his crew for any project. He was great to work with. We wanted him to remove an old dead tree we had in the middle of our front yard and replace it with a beautiful live one without any fuss or mess and he did just that! He helped guide us to a tree that would last and match with what we already had. We are very happy with the results! Thank you so much!
Very much appreciate SRH’s knowledge, skill, and work ethic. Add to that Mike’s pleasing personality, great manners, and eagerness to please (repeated by his excellent helper)… a true Class Act!
Michael Howland and his landscaping team did a great job establishing a lawn at our new home in Wiscasset. We are very grateful for their help. Kathleen and David Pratt.
I whole-heartedly recommend Michael Howland's Spring River Horticulture. The perennial bed that is a focal point of our home in Bristol stretching from one end of the house to the other had been entirely neglected due to damage several years ago from a home renovation project. It had deteriorated into a solid mass of weeds and impenetrable Siberian iris. I contacted Michael after seeing his advertisement in the Lincoln County News in the summer of 2022. I had initially planned to meet with a few different contractors before deciding who to go. However, my initial consult with Michael was very positive and the referrals he provided were as well so I contracted Michael to create a design and provide a proposal for installation. Michael put together a plan based on our desire for a garden that would be most colorful from July to October ( when we spend most of our time at this house). The project required extensive removal of the existing soil and replacement with fresh weed-free soil and compost. Additionally the plan included a winding fieldstone pathway and perimeter border edging around the house structure. By the end of October 2022 the project was completed with the exception of a few perennial which were not able to be sourced and planted until Spring 2023. Summer 2024 is year 2 of the garden and it is absolutely spectacular. Michael's aesthetic sensibilities are spot-on. The entire experience working Michael could not have been better.
