The loudest thing attached to Tara Construction Inc. isn't a job — it's a federal courtroom. In June 2022, the U.S. Department of Labor and Insurance Journal reported that a Boston jury ordered the company to pay $50,000 in compensatory damages, and the company and its owner a further $600,000 in punitive damages, to a drywall taper who had broken his leg falling from a ladder on one of its jobs. The company's own site presents a West Bridgewater general contractor that self-performs building envelope finishes, window installation, rough and finish carpentry, and drywall, and says its management staff carries a combined 100-plus years in Massachusetts construction. It also describes itself as a minority owned business (MBE) that uses union carpenters exclusively. An unclaimed Procore listing files it more narrowly, at 155 Howard Street, as a rough- and finish-carpentry specialty contractor. Customer testimony barely exists. Google shows 3.7 stars from three ratings, and the only written review on file is a one-word "Great" from September 2024 — nothing that describes an actual job, a budget, or a crew. The litigation is far better documented. The Department of Labor sued the company and CEO Pedro Pirez in February 2019, alleging they initiated a law-enforcement inquiry and facilitated the injured employee's detention by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement after he reported the injury and OSHA opened a rapid-response investigation. Bloomberg Law reported the 2017 fall; boston.com covered the worker's 2022 trial testimony; ENR described him arriving at the West Bridgewater office with his two-year-old son to collect $500 from the CEO. Justia's docket shows the case carried on to the First Circuit in 2023, and Violation Tracker logs the $650,000 penalty under workplace whistleblower retaliation. Separately, SVEP Navigator reports an OSHA inspection opened in December 2017 at a Roxbury Crossing site that drew three citations and $9,390 in proposed penalties, one under the duty-to-have-fall-protection standard. So the questions ask themselves before any contract: what became of the appeal, what the company's workers' compensation and liability coverage looks like today, and whether it can produce recent homeowner references — because almost nothing residential is published. As it stands this reads as a carpentry and envelope contractor with a heavy federal labor history and virtually no customer history, and the reference check is the whole job.

“This business hired undocumented workers. When one was injured on the job, they didn't have insurance and turned him in to ICE rather than helping him. He was arrested, injured, in front of his young son.”
“Defendant / Appellant:|TARA CONSTRUCTION, INC. and PEDRO PIREZ”
“took his two-year-old son to an office of a West Bridgewater, Mass.-based contractor, on the invitation of the CEO who asked him to come and gave the worker $500 to help him get by while recovering.”
“His employer, the CEO of Tara Construction, Inc., had police look into him after his reported injury led to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration launching an investigation into the company, a June 22 Labor Department news release said.”
“The jury on Tuesday ordered Tara Construction to pay $50,000 in compensatory damages for emotional distress and the company and its owner to pay a total of $600,000 in punitive damages to Jose Martin Paz Flores, who is referred to as Paz in court documents.”
