Tara Construction Inc.

A federal jury in June 2022 ordered Tara Construction to pay $50,000 in compensatory damages for emotional distress, and the company and its owner a further $600,000 in punitive damages, to José Martin Paz Flores. Bloomberg Law reported in 2019 that Paz Flores fell from a ladder and broke his leg on March 29, 2017 while working as a drywall taper for the company. The U.S. Department of Labor's lawsuit alleged that Tara Construction and its chief executive, Pedro Pirez, retaliated against the injured employee by initiating a law enforcement investigation and facilitating his detention by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement after he reported the injury and OSHA opened a rapid-response investigation. The Miami Herald reported in June 2022 that the chief executive had police look into him following that injury report, and Boston.com reported the same month that Paz testified his boss had promised to help and told him to come to the office at a set time to collect a payment. A court docket from July 2023 lists the company and Pirez as defendant-appellants, and a corporate-penalty tracker records a $650,000 penalty against the company in 2022 under workplace whistleblower retaliation. Separately, OSHA inspection records for Tara Construction list three citations with cumulative proposed penalties of $9,390, and name the fall-protection standard among those cited. The company's own site describes a West Bridgewater general contractor that self-performs building envelope finishes, window installation, rough and finish carpentry, and drywall, and calls itself a minority-owned union shop whose management staff has a combined 100-plus years of Massachusetts construction experience. Its Massachusetts Supplier Diversity Office minority business enterprise certification is active and runs to April 28, 2029. Its Procore Network listing describes the same rough- and finish-carpentry work, and on Google it holds a 3.7-star average from three ratings, with a five-star review posted in September 2024.
