Forty-two years of painting houses out of Haverhill, and eight people have rated Teddy's Painting on Google. That gap is most of the story here. The Better Business Bureau lists the business as starting on January 1, 1984 and running with a single employee, and gives it an A+ — the BBB's top grade — though the company is not BBB accredited. Google reads cooler: 3.5 stars across eight ratings. The written reviews that exist are few and none are recent, so what customers say about the work is dated rather than current. One thing to settle before signing anything: the Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration on file, number 112916, comes back expired in the state registry. Massachusetts exempts interior-painting-only contractors from HIC registration, so a painter may not strictly need one — but having held a registration and let it lapse is a different fact from never needing one, and it is worth asking about directly if the job touches carpentry, trim repair, or anything past the paint itself. This is a small, long-established one-person shop rather than a crew operation, which tends to suit single-house exterior or interior jobs more than anything on a tight multi-trade schedule. If that fits, ask for current proof of insurance, references from jobs in the past year, and where the state registration stands now.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this group of painters. Teddy gave us a very fair estimate on scraping and painting the trim of our home, he and his painters arrived on time, were courteous and did a Fabulous job. As a matter of fact, they exceeded themselves. Not only did they scrape and paint our trim and eaves, they painted the balusters on both of our decks, our columns our wrought iron railings, the block wall at the end of our driveway and even repaired a section of broken decking and installed a gate system on it so that we can have access to the side of our house where we feed the birds. No additional fees were added for all of the, what we consider, extra work they did. We will be recommending Teddy's to any and all friends and family we know who need work done. Don't hesitate to hire them, you won't be disappointed!
