An October 2024 Google reviewer described paying Terry’s Pressure Washing $800 for roof cleaning and still finding algae and untouched sections afterward. The Springfield business’s work includes house exterior power washing, with older customers describing both completed cleaning they praised and results they disputed. The October 2024 customer said Terry assured them that ladders and wand extensions could reach the roof of a steep, two-story house. According to the reviewer, his equipment could not reach the main roof; he then used bleach and said the algae would wash off in heavy rain. Six weeks later, the customer said it looked worse, and parts of the roof had not been cleaned. The reviewer reported texting Terry, who replied that he would reach out when in the area; they said six weeks had passed without a return. An August 2021 HomeAdvisor reviewer described a $650 package for windows, the roof and the entire house. They said windows remained dirty, black streaks remained on the roof, and dirt and spider webs remained near the front door. After the customer called, the worker apologized and promised to call and come back, according to the review, but never returned. In a May 2022 HomeAdvisor review, another customer complained about poor power washing, a mess left behind and a charge higher than the amount stated by phone. Other customers described work they were pleased with. A September 2021 HomeAdvisor reviewer said Terry came the same day and charged less than they would have spent renting equipment and buying chemicals. An April 2022 reviewer said he worked without stopping; another that month said Terry asked them to inspect the job before he left. An April 2023 customer praised the completed power washing of their home’s exterior. Google shows 1 star from one rating. Angi and HomeAdvisor each show 3.5 stars from 36 ratings.
I am a small business owner, and I really hate to leave a negative review for another small business owner, but I feel compelled to do so in this instance. I called to request a quote for roof pressure washing, after finding a post for the service on Western Mass Craigslist. Terry came out early the following morning to provide the quote, towing his equipment trailer and giving me a "here's a $100.00 discount so I don't have to drive out here again" quote of $800.00. I have a large, two-story house with a very steep roof, including a wrap-around porch roof, roofs on an attached garage, and solar panels to be navigated around on the back of the house. I was assured that my entire roof could be reached and properly cleaned with a combination of ladders and pressure washer wand extensions, so I agreed with the price. I explained that I would be away for most of the afternoon, driving my wife to Logan Airport, and Terry assured me that this would not be a problem because they would still be here working on the roof. Soon after starting, I was repeatedly asked if I would like the siding on the house cleaned for an additional $200.00, for which I declined. Before I had to leave, it was apparent to me that, though he was working hard, this was a project that was beyond his capabilities. It was impossible for him to reach the main roof of the house with his equipment. He then went to a local swimming pool supply dealer and purchased 4 gallons of bleach to kill the algae that could not be directly reached by water pressure. He assured me that the now yellow algae was dead and would wash off the roof with the first heavy rain. This has not been the case. My photos show my roof today, 6 weeks after the cleaning, where the algae on my roof looks worse than when it was cleaned. When I returned home from the airport, Terry and his wife were all packed up and waiting in his truck to be paid. I wrote him a check for the full amount, which was cashed the following business day. When I walked around the house, I noticed that there were entire sections of roof on the back of the house that had not been touched. (See the photo of the algae growth under an eave.) I left Terry a text message immediately afterward, and he replied that he would "surely reach out ... when in the area". That was 6 weeks ago, and I do not ever expect to see him again. The bottom line is that he should have NEVER taken on this project, with full knowledge that it was beyond the reach of his equipment and capabilities. Now I need to find another roof cleaning company to do the job properly. Yes, he spent a good part of the day working at it, but I feel like I poured $800.00 down the downspout. NOTE: For some reason, I am unable to upload my photos at the time of this posting.
