The Metal Men makes custom metalwork, with customer accounts ranging from powder-coated projects to a fabricated shower-curtain rod. Its website offers custom prototypes and high-volume manufacturing, advertises free estimates, and says the company has been in business for 29 years. The shop is in Chicopee. A February 2026 Google reviewer described a $325 shower-curtain rod ordered as an exact copy of a PVC template for a clawfoot tub. According to that customer, the finished rod used larger tubing that did not fit curtain hooks, the welds were poor, and the shop refused a refund or a remake using the requested tubing size. The reviewer said they intended to pursue small claims court. Other customers described successful fabrication work. In October 2024, a repeat customer praised welding, fabrication and powder coating on several projects with Walter and his company, along with suggestions when the customer needed ideas. A November 2025 reviewer praised the shop’s ability to fabricate from drawings. In a November 2019 review, a business customer described a welded mounting plate for a tow hitch on a dump truck: they dropped the truck off in the morning and said the work was completed that afternoon. A separate July 2024 complaint concerned a Facebook dining-set sale arranged with the shop owner. The reviewer described driving from New York, waiting after a message about a delayed flight, and leaving without the furniture after receiving no further response. Google showed 3.1 stars from 28 ratings in September 2026; the BBB grade was A+.
The worst experience we’ve had with any business in our lifetime. I never write reviews but I want to save someone else the headache. We brought them a custom PVC template of a shower curtain rod for our clawfoot tub that we had already been using. We asked for an exact replica. They made us a shower curtain rod with larger tubing that doesn’t fit shower curtain hooks. They refused to give us our money back or make a new one with the same size tubing as the template even though we begged them to. $325 later, we have a useless piece of metal that is sitting in our basement that will soon be going to the dump. The welds were also done horribly. We will see them in small claims court. ***Don’t be fooled. The staff is pretending they aren’t aware of this situation in their response to my review.
I'm convinced there is nothing that they can't fabricate perfectly. The quality of their work blows away common welding shops and the finished product exceeds expectations every time. If I can draw it, they can fab it. Just amazing. I highly recommend them!
We have had several projects with Walter and his company. everyone is a delight to work with. Always great work always awesome suggestions when I am at a loss for ideas. Welding and fabrication has always been on point. Powder coating has been great on my projects as well. I see there are some negative Nancies giving one star reviews I do not get this as stated above great people to work with. Seems like there is always someone looking to throw small business under the bus. Ignore them please, as this has not been our multiple experiences with this business. Great work takes time with patience on the customers end. Please remember this location is not a fast food drive thru. I look forward to seeing you guys again soon. L
The owner of this shop has no respect for people's time. Had arrangements to meet up with him to buy a dining set off facebook. Confirmed meeting day worked for him. Drove over 2 hrs from NY only to be messaged that his flight was late 2 hrs after our meeting time. Understandable but then nothing after that. We had stayed in the area for hours waiting to hear back from him on where to go to pick up this dining set to only be ghosted. Absolutely no respect. At any point he could have messaged and said something happened and we can't meet but no response means we just wasted our entire day waiting to hear from him. Finally gave up at 6pm and drove back to NY empty handed. I would not support this man's business.
Metalmen welded and installed a metal plate for a tow hitch to attach to on an old 3500 dump body. Fantastic work. Our company was in a jam with one of our trucks in the shop & the other the hitch rusted off, so we couldn't pull a trailer. We explained to the owner that we really could use it done asap to continue our jobs, we were able to drop the truck off that morning and it was completed by the afternoon. At first we thought the price was a little on the high side, but wow it was WORTH IT ALL. They had our truck ready to be picked up that afternoon & the workmanship was beautiful. I definitely recommend people going there & the owner was very pleasant to deal with. Thank you!!!
