Across 234 Google ratings the company averages 4.8, and the jobs customers describe tend to be a whole backyard at once rather than an afternoon's work. The Lynn company calls itself a landscape design and build outfit — landscaping, hardscaping, pool design and building, outdoor living construction, plus snow and ice management — serving the North Shore, and says it has been in business 20 years. Salo, named by a January 2026 customer as one of the owners, appears in reviews going back to 2021, with Alex on design. The front end of the job draws specific praise. A March 2024 customer said the three other estimates they collected came back as a number with no details, no playback of their design and no materials list. A January 2026 customer walked Salo through a retaining wall and stairs and had an estimate on the spot after notes and measurements; a June 2025 customer said the proposal and quote won them over on detail and competitive pricing; an October 2025 customer said having one company handle both design and build made the backyard renovation easier. The builds are substantial. In December 2025 a rotten deck came out and a patio with a retaining wall and pavers went in. In November 2025 an entire sidewalk was replaced and a long brick wall built where a dilapidated fence had stood. A September 2025 crew pushed a fence back 25 feet and relocated a shed to enlarge a yard, and in August 2024 a French drain and four connected dry wells were run out to a catch basin, after which that customer said the yard was dry. The complaints are specific too, and recent. In July 2026 one customer said communication became almost nonexistent once the company had their money and that getting anyone to respond or follow through was frustrating; another, a day earlier, said the quote for the same scope of work went up 200% once the design process began and that the company agreed in writing, on multiple occasions, to refund the design fee. A December 2024 customer signed a snow-removal contract and said nobody came on the day of the storm despite repeated calls and promises. In August 2025 a customer whose entire yard had been fenced about four years earlier said it took forever to get someone out for a small fix. In November 2022 a customer wrote that Salo said he would honor a two-year contract only if they left a five-star review, and that their ten-month-old driveway was still flooding with three inches of water across half of it. An April 2024 customer paid $650 rather than $550 and said the lawn was not mowed. For a designed patio, wall or full backyard rebuild on the North Shore, this is a serious candidate, and the design-then-build path is what customers say works best here. Put the scope, the price and the terms for any change in writing before the design fee goes in, and get the warranty in writing on its own terms.
