Tub-to-shower conversions done in a day come up again and again at Total Bath Systems, a Plainville, Connecticut bath remodeler whose site cites 20 years in business. Its Connecticut home improvement contractor registration HIC.0655399 is active. A May 2026 Google customer said the shower area got new acrylic panels and a bathtub in a one day project, after three other vendors had quoted. In a 2025 Google review, a customer said the crew installed a new tub and walls to make the bathroom more handicapped accessible, worked with them on grab bar locations, and finished in less than a day. A March 2026 Google customer said that when the shower door had a minor problem, the company came the day after they called and fixed it at no charge. In an October 2026 Google review, a customer who paid over $20,000 said the bathroom was left with damaged and unfinished walls, holes, smeared caulking and flooring that does not meet the wall, and that the installer turned out to be a private third party contractor rather than the Home Depot-trained installer the paperwork described. A 2023 Google customer said a $21K remodel took 2-3 months across three rounds of crews and left damaged floor boards. On Reddit, a 2025 commenter described a $20,000 tub to shower replacement that needed a total redo, and a 2023 commenter said their family was getting the runaround over loose hardware and cracks and scrapes on the tub. An August 2026 Google reviewer said an appointment was canceled 15 minutes before arrival and that the company requires both spouses to be present.
“$20,000 for a tub to shower replacement he didn't even do really good work cut the back wall didn't line it up properly had to come back for a total redo”
“Yes. Anyone who used them.”
“we are now getting the runaround by them whenever we call to schedule someone to come fix all the loose hardware. We don't even know if they can fix the cracks and scrapes their installers had done on the tub itself.”
I highly recommend hiring Total Bath Systems because they: maintain professionalism, diligently complete installs/remodels, and are experts in their craft. The remodelers offered expert advice and I appreciated the frequent communication the coordinator established with us, consistently reaching out with updates on the installations and or if a remodeler was going to be running behind schedule. If you are looking to update your bath systems, give them a call!
To say I am extremely disappointed with Total Bath Systems is an understatement. I paid over $20,000 in full, and the condition in which my bathroom was left is completely unacceptable for a project of this cost. The pictures speak for themselves. We were left with damaged and unfinished walls, holes, chipped and missing material, excessive & smeared caulking, exposed areas around the trim and corners, flooring that does not properly meet the wall, and other obvious finishing issues throughout the bathroom. These are not minor cosmetic imperfections that a homeowner should have to overlook after spending more than $20,000 on a professional bathroom installation. Another serious concern involves the installer. We were specifically told, and the paperwork provided to us states, that we would have a Home Depot-trained and background checked installer performing the work and that we should only allow a Home Depot trained installer into our home. However, during the installation my husband became acquainted with the installer and learned that he was actually a private third party contractor with no affiliation with Home Depot. That discrepancy is extremely concerning to us because it is inconsistent with the written representations we were given regarding who would be entering our home and performing the installation. We are retaining all of the paperwork and documentation concerning this representation. What makes this situation EVEN MORE upsetting is the timing. I am less than 20 days away from my due date with our baby boy. Both the salesman and the installer were aware that we were preparing our home for a newborn. Instead of being able to bring our baby home to a newly completed bathroom, we are left dealing with unfinished, damaged-looking work and trying to determine how these problems are going to be corrected. We paid for a professional bathroom renovation and trusted that Total Bath Systems would treat our home with the same care and respect as anyone else would. Unfortunately, that is not the experience we had. New customers be warned that this is how TBS will treat your home after receiving payment in full as they THINK they shouldn’t be worried about facing repercussions after the payment clears, although that will not be the case here. If you were thinking about TBS for a timely and reliable remodel before welcoming home a new family member, think again!
Excellent presentation and service.
Derek did a great job explaining all the options and the process!
These guys are a waste of time, they canceled my appointment 15 minutes before they were supposed to arrive. They said they can reschedule for the next day, but I had to check my schedule. I was able to move some things around so I was able to book that appointment. I called back later to reschedule and they told me that slot had been filled. The have a stupid rule, that states that both wife and husband have to be present at the appointment It’s so hard to find time where we’re both here because we have opposite work schedules. And now we couldn’t even get the appointment. Don’t waste your time.
