Ask Two Storey Building for a new house and they'll build one. Ask them to turn a barn into an apartment and you get their real specialty. Conversions run all through their work: a barn-and-garage made into an in-law apartment in a January 2023 account, an accessory apartment added in November 2024 for a client who had already owned a house they built, and a 3-car garage with a master suite above it finished in May 2025 — on budget, that homeowner said, with the family and four kids still living in the house alongside the addition. The Bolton firm is run by brothers Doug and Bill Storey, who say they started it in 2001. Doug is the managing partner and the name most customers use. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active, held by Two Storey Building, LLC. Houzz separately lists a construction supervisor number, CS-079390, alongside a run of awards — Big 50 Remodelers, Top 500 Remodelers, a Guild Master Award from Guild Quality — that we did not verify ourselves. The written history is small but unusually detailed: 16 accounts across five sources running 2018 to 2025, 5 stars from 11 Google raters and 4.9 from 19 on Houzz, where Value scores 4.8 against a Work Quality 5.0. Two themes repeat. First, budget and schedule hold — an August 2025 bathroom that became a lofted-ceiling wet room came in under budget after the crew solved structural problems without redrawing the design; a 2023 basement remodel "came in exactly on budget." Second, they front-load decisions: a November 2024 kitchen client described the team spending a whole day driving two hours with them to a cabinet showroom and manufacturing floor. There's a green streak too — a 2022 client credited them with using 2,200 square feet of re-purposed barn board — and the Stow Independent reported in July 2025 that Doug Storey was the building contractor on a new Bolton restaurant, coordinating siding, a pergola patio and an accessible ramp. Two things to sort out before calling. This is a big-ticket shop: Houzz puts a typical job between $100,000 and $1.5 million, and a 2018 trade profile in Qualified Remodeler pegged their average at $125,000 with most work in the $300,000 to $400,000 range. That same profile counted roughly 20 jobs a year run by the two brothers and one lead carpenter, so scheduling is finite. The right call for a whole-house renovation, a custom build, or an accessory dwelling west of Boston. Ask about current crew size, the lead time to a start date, and where your scope lands in that price band.
“We were impressed with Two Storey Building the moment they came to our house to discuss our kitchen remodel project and goals. They were professional, very knowledgeable, experienced in building whole homes, and very engaged. They even organized a whole day to drive 2 hrs with us to a custom cabinet showroom and manufacturing floor”
“Doug Storey of Bolton’s Two Storey Building is the building contractor and said his company “helped coordinate the exterior design features including a new siding, painting, a new patio with a pergola, accessible ramp and deck with seating and built in planters.””
“The team turned our outdated basement into a stunning entertainment space. Highly impressed with their craftsmanship and professionalism throughout the project.”
“Together with their only employee, lead carpenter Mat Friend, they run 20 design/build remodeling jobs per year with an average size of $125,000. Typically their jobs are much bigger—in the $300,000 to $400,000 range—with a few smaller projects for previous clients.”
“Two Story Building remodeled an original bathroom, creating a modern wet room with an open floor plan and lofted ceiling. They were willing to work with our design and install a custom cabinet that we built and provided, and they solved some structural issues at the beginning which allowed us to move forward with the original design intact. They were meticulous in their attention to detail”
Two Story Building remodeled an original bathroom, creating a modern wet room with an open floor plan and lofted ceiling. They were willing to work with our design and install a custom cabinet that we built and provided, and they solved some structural issues at the beginning which allowed us to move forward with the original design intact. They were meticulous in their attention to detail, making sure that we understood any issues that arose, and were infinitely patient and respectful of our requests and concerns. There was never an impatient reaction, or air of condescension, even when we had multiple questions or when small changes were made mid-way through the process. The subcontractors were professional and obliging, and I felt that Two Storey did an excellent job pairing the workers to the job. For instance, because of the design, this room was all about the larger format tile, which was installed on all four walls, floor to ceiling, and the work required a good amount of planning to get the layout correct. The tile installer spent a full day with us and making sure he understood exactly what we wanted. The electrician was also extremely careful in his planning, which allowed the rest of the building and installations to proceed without a hitch. The project was completed in a timely way and came in under budget and the room looks and functions exactly as we hoped. We so appreciate the way the whole team worked to realized our vision and for adding greatly to the enjoyment and value of our home.
Doug and his team designed and completed a new 3 car garage and master suite. Project was on budget and time, his crews were all very respectful and made sure each day the job site was clean which we really appreciated since we were still living in the house with 4 kids around the addition. Doug was easy to work with on design changes and kept us up to date with when to expect each step and subcontractor to be on the job.
Two Storey Building creates quality custom built construction that exceeds the expectations in a reasonable timeframe and on budget. They have mutual trust, an open mind and respect for their clients and other tradespeople working on the project. Doug and Cam leverage the latest technology in the field to manage their business and deliver completed projects. I love working with them and would recommend in a heartbeat!
We were impressed with Two Storey Building the moment they came to our house to discuss our kitchen remodel project and goals. They were professional, very knowledgeable, experienced in building whole homes, and very engaged. They even organized a whole day to drive 2 hrs with us to a custom cabinet showroom and manufacturing floor so we could learn more about the process, our choices, and meet with our kitchen designer in person. This was our first time going through a remodel, and we did a lot of research along the way. Still, we are so grateful for Doug, Camden, Mat, and Sam for making the process as stress-free and as predictable as possible. They were not only communicative and transparent with us throughout the project, but they were also respectful of our decisions and accommodating to our requests. We were able to stay very close to the initial estimated schedule. Their choice of trade partners is also top notch! After a while, it was good to be able to just trust that the companies they work with (for the electrical work, flooring, painting, etc.) were all best in class and reliable. We are beyond thrilled with the result and are already thinking about future projects we'll want to do with them.
We contacted Two Storey Building when we were considering building an accessory in-law apartment on our home. I had previously owned a house they built and had been satisfied with the quality of that product. Through all phases of this project, they were honest, responsive and professional. All factors including design and materials, time to complete and costs involved were clearly defined and met. They made what could be a very stressful situation seamless. The final product not only met but exceeded our expectations.
