Ultra Geothermal installs and services ground-source heating and cooling systems, but a February 2026 Google reviewer described a repair that failed again two days later and led to a billing dispute. The Barrington company says it also installs air-source heat pumps and ductless mini splits across New Hampshire, Massachusetts and southern Maine. It says it has worked in heating and cooling for more than 20 years and installed geothermal systems since 2007.
In that February review, the customer said another contractor found that Ultra's repair had nearly damaged the compressor and charged to correct it. The customer also reported receiving an invoice months later with claimed late fees and a threat of collections. These are the customer's allegations, including the claim that the repair created a dangerous situation. Separately, Ultra Geothermal Inc.'s New Hampshire HVAC licence MBE1000453 was registry-verified as expired in August 2026.
Other customers described helpful service. In December 2025, a first-time geothermal user said Derek serviced the system, made repairs and spent time explaining filters and settings. A June 2025 reviewer, who said Ultra had maintained an older open-loop system for more than ten years, described replacing it with an air-source heat pump and praised communication with Parker and the installation. In August 2024, another customer praised Rey's service coordination and Derek's technician team after a geothermal installation the customer dated to 2022.
Earlier complaints involved both workmanship and scheduling. A September 2023 reviewer described changing diagnoses, a delayed part installation, missed communication and being hung up on. An April 2022 reviewer praised system design and price but reported loose screws and trash, vibration from refrigerant lines, a furnace drain that froze and flooded the basement, and an outdoor heat-pump unit that became unlevel. That customer said the support team fixed the vibration and the homeowner corrected the drain. An August 2022 prospective customer said the salesman could not accommodate a timeline shorter than six months and gave an unhelpful referral response.
Consultation drew praise from two August 2024 customers who had not bought an installation: one was still considering a project, while another chose a different HVAC approach after Roger and Parker prepared two quotes and explained geothermal systems. A June 2023 Reddit commenter who used Ultra reported about $45,000 for indoor work and well drilling, reduced to about $33,000 after a tax credit. Those were that household's costs at the time.
BBB graded the company A+ in August 2026 and described it as not accredited. Ultra's website claims BBB accreditation, so the two disagree on that credential.

I really hate writing a bad review of a local, independent business. However, Ultra created a dangerous situation and a series of headaches, and I have to strongly advise against working with this contractor.
During the summer (hottest day) I scheduled with Ultra when there was a failure with my unit because they were available sooner than other options. The technician who came out was clearly new, but I assumed he was trained enough to do the work. Two days after the visit, the unit failed again.
I had my usual provider (Key) come out to diagnose the problem. They spent time explaining the issue, and showed me how the Ultra technician's "fix" almost blew the compressor, which would have been very costly and dangerous. Obviously, I had to spend more money to undo Ultra's mistakes. Key fixed the unit permanently.
I called Ultra to explain this issue, and (justifiably) never received an invoice. Now, many months later, they sent me an invoice for the first time, claimed late fees, and have threatened to send me to collections.
I was told that Ultra is under new management, and maybe they trying to collect old invoices on work that was poorly done. In any case, it's obviously why there were more available than their competitors at a busy time of the year. Now I have to file a report with the state, and prepare a counterclaim against Ultra, all because their technician put our house at risk. To save you this hassle, I strongly recommend you work with a more reputable provider.
This is our first go around with a geothermal heating set up so I requested a service and a tutorial about my system. Derek was the service provider... he could not have been more knowledgeable or personable... he spent a good deal of time with me, explaining the system... the filters... the settings and was able to provide me with valuable information. He also serviced the system and made a few necessary repairs. At this point I would highly recommend ultra geothermal and derek without reservation. Thank you!
I have been using Ultra Geothermal for servicing my older open-loop geo system for 10+ years, and when that system crapped out I approached them about replacing it. After lots of consultation I decided to go with an air-source heat pump system from them. Communication with Parker was great and they installed quickly and professionally. Highly recommended.
PARKER knows his stuff! He’s a really good guy eager to help you get done what is best for your specific situation. He and his team came out to the house and spent quality time really looking things over and being thorough about measurements and plans. He had in mind the cost versus space and work balance and turned around a plan of action in no time. We aren’t quite ready to commit yet, but he left a great taste in our mouths for when we are ready to take another bite at heating and cooling our 100+ year old place!

We recently had a new geothermal system installed by Ultra Geothermal in 2022 and have had a great experience. The company is now under new ownership and being run extremely well. The communication and service are top notch. Rey is one of the main people you will interact with coordinating service. He is friendly, professional, efficient and a great communicator! From struggling to even get a live voice with other companies we have worked with in the past (Key Heating, Strogen's), this is a welcomed change. The technician team is led by Derek who is top notch!
