USA Waste & Recycling is a trash and recycling hauler. Its website lists curbside waste and recycling, dumpster rentals, cart cleaning and food waste recycling, and the company says it has been in business 52 years. A 2025 customer described weekly trash pickup and bi-weekly mixed-stream recyclables pickup, said the company informed customers of holiday schedule changes, and called the prices reasonable. A 2026 customer said pickup time was consistent, the schedule could be checked online, and an emailed question got a prompt reply. A recent customer said leaves set out for pickup were not collected, and customer service said they must not have been out in time, which the customer disputes. A recent reviewer objected to dumpsters being emptied at 3:45 am outside a residential space and said complaints about Northampton's noise ordinance went unanswered by customer service. A 2021 waste360.com article said the company had started operating a Construction & Demolition (C&D) System in Wilbraham. A 2019 gazettenet.com report said a fire broke out at USA Waste & Recycling and multiple fire departments responded. On Google, it holds 3.1 stars from 41 ratings.
“The Indy asked USA for help us understand the issues here and promptly received the following written response to our questions from Eric Fredericksen, Director of Operations for USA Waste & Recycling.”
“USA Waste & Recycling, one of the largest independently owned and operated waste management companies in New England, has recently started operating their new Construction & Demolition (C&D) System, located in Wilbraham, Massachusetts, near Springfield.”
“As many local cities and towns look for alternatives to rising hauling costs, companies like USA Waste & Recycling, owner of the Wilbraham depot, have new opportunities to compete to meet that demand.”
“HATFIELD – A fire broke out early Wednesday morning at USA Waste & Recycling. Multiple fire departments responded to the scene and put the blaze out.”
“USA Waste & Recycling was selected by the Town Council after providing a competitive bid earlier this year.”
345 am is not an acceptable pickup time to empty dumpsters outside of a residential space. Multiple complaints have been filed regarding Northampton’s noise ordinance that fall of deaf ears with customer service. Do better and follow the noise ordinance.
Just had a customer service call regarding leaves that one not picked up and I was told that I must not have had them out there in time because that's what the people said. Which is completely untrue I have pictures of my cleaned out garage on May 10th so I know for a fact I had my lease up there and now no one wants to come pick them up so this is not great service I feel like you just saw the number of bags and didn't want to do it and now as a resident I have to go drop off my own leaves because you didn't want to do your job I'm extremely unhappy
I've had nothing but good experiences with USA Waste. One of those services that we tend to take for granted. The service is reliable and pickup time is quite consistent also. I can login anytime to see the schedule if I'm unsure whether it's recycling week. They are good about communicating any changes in scheduling due to holidays etc through email. I emailed once to ask a question about something I was unsure whether I could put in the regular trash, and got a prompt reply. Everyone on my street uses them so we all have barrels out on the same day which is nice.
I'm very happy with our USA Waste services, which include weekly trash pickup/removal and bi-weekly recyclables (mixed-stream) pickup. They do a great job of informing their customers of weekly schedules when holidays are involved; their billing and customer service are easy to navigate online or via telephone; their pickup services are faultless. I think their prices are reasonable as well. I am a happy customer, and it's nice to not be agitated when it comes to waste removal.
**Edited for transparency based on their response. “The substantially lower price” mentioned is $45 per month for a normal barrel and $43 for half the size. Therefore only a two dollar per month savings. Bottom line is their pricing is still over 1 1/2 times more than other neighboring communities charge for waste pick up. Their service level response is that I can take my trash myself to the waste dump station… Nice! Maybe the company should just stop the monopolistic price gouging!** I've tried to get reasonable pricing from 3 different companies that all route back to USA. Price gouging in New Hartford, CT at its finest. Buy up the local companies to remove competition and charge $57 per month for residential pick up with recycling that only comes 2x per month. I asked about smaller bins... only $2 per month savings for half the size bin. I asked if I could pay the year in advance and save...Nope. Not one solution was offered to assist by Akiel.
