Woodworks Custom Homes is a family-run custom home building and renovation company working out of Wellesley, MA. Owner Gil Mendes started the business in 2011 with partner Daviny Freitas, and the company says it covers Wellesley and the wider Boston MetroWest area, taking on full kitchen and bathroom gut renovations rather than small repair jobs. The company has built a review history across seven different platforms since 2023 — 14 reviews in total. Google puts it at 4.3 stars from 16 ratings, and Angi shows a 5.0 average, though from just one review there. Houzz lists a broad range of services under its profile, everything from additions to basement work, and shows a Houzz Badge and accredited/certified status, but that listing itself has drawn zero reviews. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor license (#178920) is verified active with the state. The most recent account, posted in February 2026, is far less flattering: a customer who hired Woodworks for a complete home renovation — new electrical, HVAC, and plumbing throughout — says they've since spent thousands of dollars correcting substandard work in all three trades, and that repeated attempts to get Gil to take responsibility went nowhere. It's the only review from the last several months, and it lands directly on the kind of large, multi-trade renovation work this company is built around. Anyone considering Woodworks for a comparable full-scale renovation should ask directly how post-project issues with electrical, HVAC, or plumbing subcontractors get resolved, and get any warranty or callback commitment spelled out before signing. The review count here is thin on every platform — a handful of ratings rather than dozens — so there isn't a deep, recent pool of experience to weigh that one complaint against.

Gil did a complete reno of the home we purchased in 2020. New electric, HVAC, plumbing, everything. We have since spent thousands of dollars correcting bad electrical, HVAC, and plumbing. We tried for quite some time to get Gil to take some accountability but with no success. Even one of the contractors he suggested and uses stated how poorly the original HVAC install was and Gil still wouldn't cover any of the cost to fix the subpar initial install. Gil was nice to work with but the work itself ended up being quite poor and unfortunately and he simply has not accepted any responsibility for the poor quality of work.

Nicest group of people you’ll ever meet. Gil has an A + team.

We had a pretty big project: gut renovation of our kitchen and 2.5 bathrooms. Jonatas, the project manager, is an absolute dream to work with: professional, communicative, present, detail-oriented, and committed to seeing things through even when the inevitable hiccups arise, such as vendor delays that are outside Woodworks' or our control. Woodworks was transparent and very clear about the scope of work and pricing (very reasonable), and went above and beyond, doing things for us that weren't included in the contract (such as installing recessed lighting as a courtesy, where we hadn't thought about doing it) and the contractors were all respectful of our space. We are so happy to have found the people we will go to for our future projects from here on out! Thank you, Woodworks, for helping us get our dream home!

I was extremely pleased with the addition work that was done on my home.

We could not recommend Gil and his team more. We used Gil for a complete gut renovation project at our home in Newton and to replace floors in our Boston condo. Both times, Gil and his team went above and beyond to make the process seamless and smooth. Their attention to detail and professionalism is unmatched. We will never use another contractor and look forward to future projects together.
