Your Garden Curator is a one-name operation in Somerville - Robert Monahan has run it since founding the company in 2005, more than two decades now as a sole proprietorship. The business describes itself as a full-service organic landscape design, construction, and maintenance company, covering garden care, tree and shrub care, perennial beds, plant health care, and winter snow management, and it says it works Arlington, Belmont, Cambridge, Lexington, Malden, Medford, Melrose, Somerville, Watertown, Winchester, and Woburn. The kind of job that shows up in its reviews is a full transformation rather than a quick fix. This spring, one customer had Robert's crew turn a paved parking lot - depaved with help from a volunteer community group - into a 3,300 sq ft garden: grading the ground, bringing in soil, laying hardscape, and advising on native plants, all while letting the homeowner lead the design rather than push a locked-in plan the way some competing landscapers had. That willingness to work around a client's own vision, rather than dictate one, tracks with its longer record too - across Google, Checkbook.org, Unilocal, and the BBB, the tone has stayed consistently positive since 2023. The numbers back that up without being enormous: 4.5 stars from 16 Google ratings, a 4.2 community rating on Unilocal, and a BBB file with an A+ grade, plus Checkbook.org subscribers rating the company 'superior' for doing the job right the first try, disclosing costs early, and neatness of the finished work. Two things worth confirming before booking. First, the business is not BBB-accredited - that's a separate, paid program from the A+ grade itself, but worth knowing the two aren't the same thing. Second, since the company markets an organic, low-chemical approach to garden care, ask directly what that means for any specific pest or weed problem, since methods and timelines can differ from a conventional service. This is a fit for someone who wants a full landscape or garden redesign handled by the same person who's been doing it locally for twenty-plus years, especially if you have your own design ideas you want respected rather than overridden. For routine mowing-only lawn care or emergency tree work, it's worth asking whether that's really their focus, since the record here leans toward design-and-build projects.

We turned a literal paved parking lot into a 3300 sq ft garden oasis with Robert and his team. After depaving with a volunteer community group, we needed a landscaper that could grade the ground, bring in the soil, lay hardscape, advise on native plant choices, order and supply plants, do the planting and advise on maintenance so our investment would flourish. We met with a number of landscaping companies and chose Robert for his balance of capabilities + willingness to let us lead on design choices. Other companies wanted full control of the design which just wasn’t in budget for us on such a large scale project. Our yard is now a coveted green space for our kids and a pollinator haven. It was very easy to work with Robert, who was gracious, professional, honest and even keel. We recommend him to all our friends.

Highly recommend! Robert & his team removed a chain link fence and installed a stone pathway along the side & in front of my house. They had excellent communication, hard working and finished the job quickly. So grateful to find them.

We've been working with Your Garden Curator for years, and Robert and the team always do such a wonderful, thoughtful job. I inherited a garden that I frankly don't know much about (I do not have a green thumb!), and they are experts who are always happy to answer any questions I may have/proactively consult on solutions. Their system for requesting new work is also very easy to use.

I rarely write reviews but Robert and his team do such a wonderful job that I really want folks to know how amazing they are. The team has taken care of our yard maintenance for 2 years now and we just completed a big front yard make over with them. The care and consideration was truly outstanding and we’re 200% happy with the outcome. They go above and beyond and you can really tell they care about the quality of their work and ensure every detail is perfect. Thank you Robert and team - we are very grateful to have found you!

Contacted them about doing a water feature in our yard. They asked for a lot of information and photos before declining us and telling us they don't do these services stated on their website. Crazy. Don't waste your time!
