A&P Plumbing, also listed as AP Plumbing and Heating, works out of Medford and says it has been in the trade 17 years. Reviewers keep calling for two kinds of jobs: a hot water tank that needs replacing in a hurry, and heating work — a failed boiler, a gas conversion, a radiator system on the fritz. The strongest thread through the written record (2021 to 2022) is response time. One customer's tank broke over a weekend and called the response, pricing and workmanship outstanding. A boiler failure that same fall got a new unit installed in two days, finishing before a competing company said they could even start. A three-unit condo gas-piping job was fully permitted, inspected the day after completion, and wrapped up two weeks ahead of schedule. Not every account is glowing. A 2022 review describes a faucet repair that didn't fully resolve — the customer paid $150 for a new washer, the leak returned, and a follow-up call went unanswered for a stretch; she said she wouldn't be eager to hire again. A separate 2021 review flagged a pattern of last-minute rescheduling on a water heater job, even though the reviewer still called the work itself great and said they'd use AP again. Before calling, it's worth confirming pricing up front for smaller repairs — the one negative account here centers on a $150 washer job feeling steep — and asking about the appointment window if timing matters, since scheduling slips came up more than once. On HomeAdvisor the business carries a 4.6-star average across 88 ratings, and lists free estimates, warranties and emergency service. A&P is a fit for a homeowner who needs a plumber or heating tech who shows up and gets the mechanical work done — water heaters, boilers, gas lines, leaky fixtures — rather than a full kitchen or bath renovation; the company's own service list mentions bathroom and kitchen remodeling, but nothing in the written record here describes an actual room remodel project.

Our hot water tank broke & needed replacing on a weekend. The response time, pricing and quality of work was outstanding! I would definitely hire again and highly recommend AP Plumbing to others.
Al came late, although he did call toward the end of the time window he had given and said he would be late. He was polite. I wanted to have two leaking faucets repaired, one in the bathroom, the other in the kitchen. He suggested that I should replace both of them because they were old, but that he would be willing to try to put a new washer in the kitchen faucet. He did put a new washer in the kitchen hot water faucet and cleaned out its aerator. He charged $150 for this. He also suggested that I could go on line and buy new faucets for both the kitchen and bathroom. However, after he left, the kitchen faucet continued to leak. I called him again and left a message that I wanted to speak to him. I wanted to check to be sure that he had only changed the hot water faucet's washer, so that the cold water faucet might still be the problem. Now that I have used the shut off for the cold water faucet, it appears that the hot water faucet is still the problem. Meanwhile Al had left me a phone message that I could try to call him again. Al may be right that I should buy new faucets and $150 for changing a washer may be a current rate, but I can't say that I was pleased or would be eager to hire him again.
Al responded quickly, quoted fairly, came in - in real time and did the work. He is a good person, and means very well and kept to his word. He installed a washer / dryer line, and associated new piping from the water in the basement of a 3 unit condo into the 1st unit. He also replaced some pretty greening copper pipes with pex piping. He did it all permitted and got it inspected the day after it was completed. He honestly completed the job 2 weeks BEFORE other people said they could come in. The inspection went smoothly.
I needed a new boiler. I contacted Al and he responded immediately. Removed the damaged boiler and installed a new boiler in two days. He responded immediately to all my calls and emails and finished the job when he said and at a price less expensive than the other company's I contacted. I will certainly use AP in the future and will recommend him to my friends.
Al came and replaced my hot water tank. It didn't take too long. He did a great job. My only complaint is that I originally set up an appointment for Wednesday, he called and I had to reschedule for Thursday. Then Wednesday night I got a message at 11:30pm saying he had to reschedule for Friday. Then my appointment was at 8am-9am Friday and he didn't show untill 11 and before he showed up he called to ask if I wanted to reschedule again. He takes payment through Venmo or Zell. I thought it was odd that I couldn't pay through home advisor. Great guy, just needs better communication.
