A G Welding is a metal-fabrication shop at 20 Lewis St in Worcester, and the work customers describe is almost all custom ironwork for homes: stair and step railings, gates, and one-off welding repairs. A Houzz profile for the shop is filed under Colonial Iron Works and says the two names have been one Worcester County operation since 1947, so expect either name on paperwork. Railings are what people come back to talk about. A homeowner writing in December 2024 described "the father and son who run this place" working with them to co-create a custom railing for external stairs. In an April 2024 review a customer who collected six quotes for front-step railings said A G Welding won on quality, scheduling and speed — a week to get booked and about 45 minutes to install in the rain — and added that several of the other vendors they had quoted actually use A G to make their iron and steel railings. A December 2023 review of front-step railings called the work beautiful and "priced right," and a March 2022 customer said the final price matched the initial quote and installation happened exactly when promised. The shop also takes work that bigger fabricators turn down. A 2023 reviewer brought in a desk chair whose arms needed cutting off; one phone call, two days and $40 later it fit under their desk. Another customer had roof racks made for a truck and said a year on they were still sturdy. Google shows 4.7 stars from 14 ratings across 2022 to 2026. The one critical review is not from a customer. A neighbour posted in April 2026 about employees playing loud car stereos at 7am and mid-afternoon, and said outright that they do not know how the business operates — worth knowing if you live nearby, but it says nothing about the work. What is thin is the paperwork side: the Houzz listing names only fence and gate installation as services, which does not match the railings, racks and repairs customers actually describe, and no licence or insurance detail appears anywhere on file. Ask which entity name the contract will be under, confirm insurance, and get the scope in writing. For custom iron railings, gates or a small weld nobody else will touch in the Worcester area, the record here is consistent and specific.
“AG Welding 20 Lewis Street in Worcester.”
Employee are inconsiderate of the residents around this business. Loud music at 7am 8 am and around 3 pm when they leave. 3pm is understanding but dude 7am blasting their car stereos to think their cool is the last thing the residents of the street appreciate. Business wise idk how they operate but as a community member of the street they live on their annoying and vulgar and unprofessional.
Good people.
These guys are amazing — classic service with excellent craftsmanship. The father and son who run this place were super thoughtful when working with us on custom railing for our external stairs. They were able to work with us to co-create exactly what we were looking for.
They made roof racks for my truck about a year ago and they are still in great shape! Very sturdy and durable
These guys are very high quality and reasonably priced. I received 6 quotes for front step railings and what AG lacked in a polished sales process, they made up for in quality, scheduling (1 week!), and speed of install (~45 mins in the rain). Several of the vendors we received quotes from actually use AG to make their iron/steel railings, and several that don’t do iron/steel recommended AG. Tony, Sal, Mike, and the rest of the crew - thank you from 19 Assabet!
