Allied Masonry Contractors is a Cambridge-based masonry business that, per its directory listings, also does foundation and chimney work. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration has expired, and its written record is thin — just one detailed account on file. That account, posted in 2023, described a difficult experience: pushy sales tactics, a price that rose once the job was underway with the scope framed as more complicated than agreed, poor communication when questions were raised, and work the reviewer said was rushed and not done skillfully. It's the only customer account currently on file for this business, so it can't be called a pattern, but it is specific and detailed. Its Better Business Bureau profile lists an A+ grade (the company isn't BBB-accredited) and says it's been in business three years — which doesn't line up with its Angi profile, which claims 28 years of experience. That's worth asking about directly. Given the expired registration, the single negative account, and the age discrepancy between its own listings, it's worth getting a written contract with a fixed price before work begins, checking references, and confirming current licensing directly with the state.
For individual households, donâ t even call these people! They are pushy, admittedly higher price, and certainly donâ t work professionally as they claim. Our contract with them was a disaster. They will lull new customers in, switch to misrepresentations about the job being more complicated, then set a large price for their own gains. â They donâ t listen, but make excuses, argue, and will bully verbally. â They proved themselves to be lacking knowledge about important details of their trade, making poor decisions. â They work quickly but not that skillfully, taking shortcuts, resulting at times in low quality. â They donâ t plan ahead to prevent collateral damage and to keep from making a mess, then they donâ t clean up thoroughly after themselves. The opposite of professional, and in the end certainly not justifying their high cost. We were suckered senior citizens, but donâ t you be drawn in!
