Two things about Avalon Masonry and Construction sit oddly next to each other. On Angi and HomeAdvisor the Somerville company averages 4.9 across 39 ratings; at the Better Business Bureau it carries a C, handed out for not answering a complaint. The Somerville Ave outfit is young and small — incorporated in October 2023, with one employee listed and James Hearn as president. Its 2026 customers describe masonry, chimney and foundation work, and they keep landing on the same two notes: someone turned up quickly, and the site was left clean. One June customer said the quote came within hours of the call. Another summed up the whole job in two words: "Done right." A July homeowner had repairs done around a foundation and said they were told what was happening at every step. The exception matters, though. In April 2026 a customer hired them to stop a chimney leak, said the leak was still there afterward, and said the company looked at a video of it and then stopped getting back to them; a refund was refused. The company disputed that account in a posted reply. Read it alongside the BBB's stated reason for the C — an unanswered complaint — and a pattern worth asking about emerges: quick to come out and quote, harder to reach once a job goes wrong. So: a plausible call for straightforward masonry and foundation repairs, especially if you want someone on site fast. Before signing, ask what happens if the repair doesn't hold, and get the warranty and callback terms in writing. Angi and HomeAdvisor both list a Massachusetts trade registration, number 209986, as the company's own statement rather than anything checked against the state, so look it up yourself. And those two 4.9 profiles are one review set shown twice, not two independent verdicts.

Avalon did a great job of accessing and resolving the job needed to be done on and around my foundation. They kept me informed on every step of the process. I would highly recommend them for any job that you may have, they're efficient, and very professional, the job was done quickly. They are a FIVe Star company and would highly recommend them. Thank you Avalon for your hard work and I love that you kept in touch with me through the entire job

The wall run getting the drain — a full 30×40 ft basement is about 140 ft.
