The company tells its own name's story like this: Almar is Alice and Mary, the wives of the two men who started it in Hanover in 1959. It says the business went from founder Gerald Quinn to his son Terry in 1973, and to Terry's daughter Allison Guido, the CEO today, in 2002. What South Shore homeowners hired the third generation for, in the reviews they left, is the substantial work — kitchens, basements, additions and renovations that run through a whole house. A July 2024 review describes a condo's kitchen and three bathrooms done together. In a March 2024 review a homeowner on a large renovation named three people by role — Craig on the scope, Allison checking in, Nolan the project manager on site day to day — which is the shape of a design-build outfit rather than a crew with a truck. A 2022 reviewer liked following a basement build-out through an app that posted photos of each step. Windows come up as their own line of work. In a May 2025 review the owner of a brick-and-cement-block house said replacing windows there took real construction skill rather than popping units in and out, and credited Almar with it; a July 2024 review counts 17 windows replaced and thanks Bob, Mark, Tom and Owen by name. Repeat work shows up plainly too — a January 2024 review lists storm and entry doors, a wood deck swapped for AZEK, windows, a slider and a new sunroom floor before the stair job that customer was writing about. A 2023 Reddit post in r/SouthShore mentioned a full kitchen gut with Almar, walls down and rebuilt. The other side of it is a January 2022 review rating them one star: leaks in three rooms that damaged the ceiling plaster in all three, and the writer says the repairs held until a storm with strong winds, after which they felt left on their own. Its written history runs from 2022 into mid-2025. Two things to settle before signing. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, #105243, is expired on the state registry — ask where that stands. The company's site lists construction supervisor licences for Allison Guido (CS #87406), Craig Guido (CS #094620) and Mark Caruso (CS #085465) plus contractor licence #143261, so ask which of them will supervise your job. Its BBB page carries an A+ grade, though the company is not a BBB-accredited business. For a multi-room remodel or an addition where you want one company holding the schedule and a designer in the room, Almar fits the jobs its customers describe. Get the registration question answered, and ask how a callback is handled once the crew has gone.
