When a Cape house sits close enough to the edge that the choice is move it or lose it, Ambrose Homes is the name that turns up in the Cape Cod Times' coverage. The paper reported in February 2025 that the Wellfleet company lifts and moves homes to save them from erosion and owns unified jacking systems that can lift one million pounds; a month later it named Ezra Ambrose as running the lift at 453 Commercial St. Back in 2016 the same paper described one of its house moves being stabilized on pilings driven 50 feet into the ground instead of a new concrete foundation. The company is family-owned, sits on Route 6 in Wellfleet, and describes itself as a Cape Cod design-build firm that builds custom homes and specializes in house lifting, helical piers, shoring, specialty foundations and marine and seawall work. Its site says it has designed, built and lifted over a million square feet in more than forty years and performs 70% of project work in-house. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, #157609, is active on the state registry under the company's own name. Neighbors put the name forward themselves. In a September 2025 r/CapeCod thread, one commenter wrote that "Ambrose homes does all those things, they lift houses as well", another simply seconded it, and a third said Ambrose was coming out to talk their job through. New England Home listed the company as the builder on a June 2025 project with Walker Architects, and the Provincetown Independent reported in June 2026 that the work on a project there would be done by Ambrose Homes. BuildZoom's permit records show 18 projects, at least seven of them inside three years, at a typical permit value near $175,000, including jobs in Dennis and East Dennis. On Google the company holds 4 stars from 8 ratings, and the three written reviews pull in both directions. A 2023 homeowner who had their house moved and an addition built during the pandemic said Ambrose came in on budget through a stressful stretch and that Ezra Ambrose gives a realistic timeframe; a 2024 reviewer called the crews knowledgeable and experienced. A 2022 reviewer had the opposite experience — a month of trying to reach the company, and then a call with someone they described as rude and unprofessional. For a lift, a house move, or a foundation on a hard coastal site, this is a specialist with the equipment and the newspaper trail to match. Before you commit, settle how the company handles calls and who your point of contact will be, and get the timeframe and the budget in writing.
