Ambrose Homes is a Wellfleet builder with an unusual specialty for a residential contractor: it lifts and moves entire houses. Local news reporting describes the firm running the lift of a Provincetown property on Commercial Street in 2025, and says it owns unified jacking systems capable of lifting one million pounds — work it does to save Cape houses from erosion. By its own account the company is family-owned, has been at it for over forty years, performs about 70% of project work in-house, and has designed, built and lifted more than a million square feet of custom residential and commercial buildings. Alongside house lifting it lists helical piers, shoring, specialty foundations and marine and seawall work, and its stated service area is Wellfleet and Brewster. Its Massachusetts home improvement registration, HIC 157609, is registry-verified active. The firm shows up in Cape word of mouth for exactly this niche. On r/CapeCod in September 2025 one commenter told a homeowner that Ambrose Homes does all those things and lifts houses as well, another seconded the recommendation, and the original poster came back to say Ambrose was coming out to talk it through. It has also been named as builder on an architect-designed project in New England Home magazine and, in June 2026, as the firm that would do the work on a Provincetown project. The direct customer record is small — eight Google ratings averaging four stars, with three written reviews. The most detailed, from 2023, describes Ezra Ambrose moving the reviewer's home and adding an addition during the pandemic and delivering on budget, with a realistic timeframe and an honest, never-rude manner. Another calls the crews knowledgeable and experienced. Against that sits a 2022 one-star review from someone who spent a month trying to reach the company and found the person who eventually answered rude and unprofessional, and moved on to another contractor. With a record this thin, that single account carries weight: it is a third of the written reviews on file. Worth doing before you commit: ask for references on a lift or foundation job of your own size and vintage, confirm who your day-to-day contact will be, and get the timeline and what happens if it slips in writing. BuildZoom's permit record shows a typical permit value around $175,000 across seven projects in three years, which is a useful gauge of the scale it usually works at.

“Pilings will be driven 50 feet into the ground, and the house will be stabilized on the pilings rather than on a new concrete foundation, Ezra Ambrose, who is leading the house move for Ambrose Homes, said.”
Very knowledgeable and experienced crews!
I used Abrose Homes (Ezra Ambrose) to move my home and put on an addition during the pandemic. This was a stressful undertaking. Ambrose delivered a great product on budget during a tough time for everyone. Ezra Ambrose will give you a realistic timeframe, never rude, honest, earnest, and direct.
Incredibly rude and shortsighted approach to business. Tried reaching them for 1 month- when I finally got through to the contractor she was rude and unprofessional. Needless to say, I moved on to another contractor.
