The work is whole-house. The company's own site describes custom homes, large additions, remodeling and renovations, with sustainable building put front and center. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active and held by A.F. Hultin & Co., Inc. itself. BuildZoom's file lists 13 permitted projects — mostly Truro custom homes, additions and demolitions, plus work in Harwich, Wellfleet and Rockport — and gives the company a score of 93. The outside voices are magazine writers, and they are old ones. In 2013, New England Home Magazine credited Art Hultin with building a Truro house designed by architect Maryann Thompson, writing that the finished place looked almost as if a glacier had deposited it on the landscape. Edible Cape Cod profiled him in 2017 at his North Truro home, describing the company as one specializing in custom homes and sustainable living. Neither is a client describing how their own project went. That gap is the thing to know before calling. Its BBB page carries no customer reviews, and neither does BuildZoom; BBB also lists no complaints and no government actions, and grades the company A+, though it is not BBB accredited. BBB puts the operation at two employees under president Arthur F Hultin Jr., worth asking about for a full custom build. The tenure story depends on who is telling it: the website says fine homes since 1978, while BBB dates the business's start and incorporation to February 1997. For a small Outer Cape shop on a custom home or a large addition, Hultin is a plausible call — with the caveat that you will have to do the reference-checking yourself. Ask for recent clients you can phone, ask who will actually be on site given the size of the crew, and get the tenure question answered directly.
