Forty-eight reviews stretching back to 2010 — that is the unusual thing about this Saugus flooring shop. America Hardwood Floor Services says on its own site that it has worked Massachusetts since 1993, which puts it at 33 years, and Thumbtack lists it as a three-person outfit. The work is narrow and it stays narrow: installing, repairing and refinishing hardwood, pulling out old carpet, fixing sub-floors underneath, and finishing in either water-based or oil-based poly. Thumbtack extends that to solid wood, engineered hardwood, laminate and vinyl, plus stair installation and repair. The two directory scores do not agree, and the gap matters. Angi and HomeAdvisor both show 4.9 from 23 reviews — but every one of those reviews is dated 2010 to 2018, so that number describes a decade-old version of the business. Thumbtack's 4.5 across 47 reviews is the more current read, and it is 79% five-star with 6% one-star. Only three of those jobs were actually hired through Thumbtack. Two things are worth raising on the phone. First, the one-star complaint on Thumbtack is about quoting: the customer said the job was priced without being properly assessed, and the company's public reply told them to be polite rather than addressing the estimate. Get a written, on-site quote before anyone starts. Second, Thumbtack currently marks this pro as unavailable for Floor Repair, so confirm they are actually taking the kind of job you have. A few details also do not line up across listings. The Angi and HomeAdvisor 'about us' text describes serving the Duluth, Georgia area despite Massachusetts contact details, the years-in-business figure is 33 on the company's own site but 25-plus on Angi, and old directory entries put the business on Newbury St in Peabody rather than Putnam St in Saugus. Neither Angi nor HomeAdvisor lists free estimates or a warranty. If you want hardwood sanded and recoated by a crew that has been doing only that for decades, this is a reasonable shortlist entry. Pin down the scope and the price in writing first, and ask directly whether the crew is currently taking repair work.

America Hardwood Floor services was wonderful for refinishing our hardwood floors. We scheduled them well ahead of time and they confirmed they were still on schedule prior to coming. The team of two did 700 sq feet of floors and closet floors in 4 hours, to sand and give first coat of poly. Two days later they put the second coat of poly on. These old floors look absolutely amazing now, and they were super competitively priced. We would go through them again! ($1,000)
