Houzz pegs a typical Andover Landscape job at $25,000 to $500,000, which tells you most of what you need to know: this is not the crew you call to mow. They work out of Main Street in Andover as a design/build outfit, and describe themselves as a boutique firm with landscape architects in house who hand-draw every plan before their own crews build it. The company says it has been at this for over 30 years, and BBB lists John Nardozza as owner with about 10 employees. Ratings sit at the top of the scale on two independent sites: 4.8 on Google from 29 ratings, and a flat 5.0 across 25 Houzz reviews. The pairing customers keep describing is design first, then execution. In a review this spring, a homeowner walked through a front-yard project done with Russell and John — the goal was something elevated that still fit the neighborhood — and what stuck with them was the precision of the crew through the install. The awards point the same direction: Best of Houzz in 2016 and 2017, and Boston Magazine's Best of Boston Home in 2018 for landscape design/build. BBB grades the company A+, though it is not BBB Accredited — the grade is BBB's own assessment, not a membership. BuildZoom lists a Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration for the company; that is the directory's listing, so ask to see the registration itself before you sign anything. The thing to pin down early is money. Their work starts with a paid design phase, and the sharpest criticism in their review history comes from a customer who paid for design and then found the construction estimate well beyond what they had budgeted. That is a process question rather than a workmanship one, and it has a simple fix: before you pay for design, get their honest build range for the project you're describing, and ask what happens to the fee if you don't go ahead. Right call for a full-yard or full-property project — patios, pool surrounds, plantings, built structures — where you want one company owning both the drawing and the dig. If your job is a single small repair or routine mowing, you're not their customer. Confirm the registration, settle the build budget range before the design fee, and this is a straightforward hire.

We had an excellent experience from start to finish with Russell, John and the entire team at Andover Landscape. I can't say enough for the talent, vision and craftmanship they brought to our project. We had general ideas in mind for our front yard, wanted it to feel elevated while still fitting in with our neighborhood; the way it came to life was even more rewarding than we anticipated. The care and precision the team put into the installation was extraordinary to watch (we even received friendly, positive updates from our neighbors!); the final result feels cohesive and effortless. We had quotes from other, good, places that we could have saved a little money, but it was always going to be costly and we're so glad we chose the outfit that brought the highest caliber of design services integrated with installation. It was well worth the investment as a timeless upgrade that will be appreciated for generations.

A True Outdoor Transformation — Visionary Design, Exceptional Craftsmanship, and Impeccable Execution: Working with Andover Landscape was an incredible experience from start to finish. They completely reimagined our entire property, transforming it into a breathtaking and highly functional outdoor oasis that perfectly fits our family’s lifestyle. From the very beginning, they listened closely to what we were looking for — not just in terms of functionality, but also our personal style, which leans toward classic and traditional with New England charm. Their ability to translate our ideas into a cohesive design that felt true to us was remarkable. From the very first design meeting, their vision blew us away — using aerial views to help us see underused areas and rethinking how every inch of our property could work harder and look more beautiful. The team helped us see untapped potential across our yard, rethinking how every area could serve a purpose while remaining beautiful and cohesive. They skillfully reshaped the landscape to create distinct zones — a stunning pool and hot tub area, an inviting fire pit overlooking the pool, an open field for our boys to play, and even finding a spot for our daughter’s beloved climbing structure — all integrated through a thoughtful, tiered design that works beautifully with the natural slope of our property. Romantic plantings and gardens soften the space, adding timeless charm, while carefully placed lighting allows us to seamlessly transition from day time to evening entertaining and highlight the beauty of the space even at night. Watching the evolution of our yard and seeing the final results gave us not just an appreciation for their design and overall execution, but also the detail craftsmanship throughout all of their work which is second to none. For example, the U shaped paver driveway was laid meticulously and sets the perfect tone as you enter the property, blending elegance and practicality. The fieldstone walls and masonry are truly works of art. A once steep and unusable drop off in our yard was painstakingly studied, filled in and regraded to perfection for our boys to play ball on. Trees and plantings were thoughtfully and strategically placed to provide both the romantic garden we desired and privacy so as to create a true retreat. It is clear that even each plant specimen was hand selected for its beauty and structure. Every element of the design and execution reflects meticulous attention to detail. Another quality we appreciated was the team’s flexibility and collaboration throughout the entire project. As the project evolved, we increased the scope, decided to make a few changes and had many questions. The team was always available and never batted an eye at our questions, changes and requests. They worked with us tweaking and expanding the design to meet our changing needs without ever compromising the integrity of the overall vision. Every member of the team, from design through build, was professional, responsive, and a genuine pleasure to work with. Their communication was excellent, their craftsmanship impeccable, and their pride in their work evident at every turn. We now have a true backyard oasis — a place that’s equally perfect for relaxing, entertaining, and letting our kids play — and it feels like a natural extension of our home. It is the perfect space for us to grow and make memories in. We can’t recommend Russell, John and the entire Andover Landscape team highly enough.

Andover Landscape completed a total overhaul of our backyard last year. I was impressed from beginning to end with their work: from the first design and concept meetings, to the on-site progress updates as the project progressed through its several phases, and to and through the final finishing touches, the entire team operated efficiently, expertly, and professionally. John and Russell were consistently available and readily responsive, and their communication to us throughout their work was clear and reliable. For a project with as much scope and as many moving parts as this, I was very appreciative of their attention to small details, both in terms of their own proactive planning and execution of the project, as well as with respect to their receptiveness to discussing our particular desires and preferences—no detail was too small for them to be willing to discuss. And the end result delivered was top-notch—we couldn’t be happier with the new outdoor space for our family to enjoy. We highly recommend Andover Landscape to anyone in search of exceptional outdoor landscape/design work.

We recently had the pleasure of working with Andover Landscape to transform our front yard, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. From start to finish, the team was nothing short of professional and friendly, making the entire process seamless and stress-free. One of the standout features of the project was the new bluestone walkways. It really improved the curb appeal. The custom-built and painted fence, along with the new lamp post, adds a touch of elegance that perfectly complements the overall design. Andover Landscape also planted flowers that will take time to fully bloom. While the yard already looks fantastic, the best is yet to come as nature takes its course, and these plants flourish. While Andover Landscape is on the expensive side, the quality of their work and the end result are absolutely worth it. If you’re looking for a landscape design and build company that delivers top-notch results with exceptional customer service, I highly recommend Andover Landscape.
