AOA Moving Services works out of Boston with a Google page showing 4.8 stars across 342 ratings, but the fuller picture from this year is more complicated than that number suggests. The company's own website discloses something worth knowing upfront: AOA has been fully acquired by Continental Moving Company, which now runs all of AOA's operations under the same name and phone number. This year's reviews split into two clear groups. On one side, there are specific rescues and hard jobs handled well: one reviewer's couch couldn't make it up a staircase with the original delivery crew, and AOA showed up within the hour, removed and reinstalled a window, hoisted the couch up three floors, and reassembled it inside. Another reviewer needed an entire office moved in a tight window and said the crew found the building access without drama and had everything across town in a few hours with nothing missing. On the other side sit four negative reviews from the same stretch, and they're specific rather than vague. One customer says a promised noon-to-4pm arrival call turned into silence past 6pm and an unanswered phone. Another says the truck that showed up was too small, forcing extra trips, and that a damaged ceiling lamp went unrepaired after they raised it with the company. A third describes the move being handed off to a separate van line, with the price raised by $2,300 and items arriving broken. A fourth, from March, describes a mover losing his temper over a request for extra help, yelling, and throwing wooden doors into the trash — the kind of incident that would make anyone uneasy having that crew in their home. None of this is new for the company: pricing disputes, damage claims, and late arrivals with poor communication show up repeatedly further back in its history too, so this isn't an isolated bad week. Given the acquisition, it's worth asking directly who will actually be on the truck and who to call if something goes wrong, since operational control has changed hands. If you book with AOA, get the arrival window, the truck size, and whether any part of the job — especially a long-distance move — will be handled by a subcontracted carrier, all confirmed in writing beforehand. The good jobs here look genuinely good; the bad ones are serious enough that this isn't a business to book on reputation alone.

    DO NOT USE.

Would give 0 stars if it were possible. Our contract said we’d get a call with a specific ETA at noon for a move between 1 and 4. We heard nothing until 3:30, and at that time we were told to expect movers between 5 and 6. Since 6pm, nobody will answer the phone at the number listed on the website. Unprofessional, not communicative, and have now left my family with no way to get our things out of our old apartment and into our new one.

Edited to add :
Movers arrived shortly after 8pm, and did an excellent and efficient job. Despite some unfair complications which included having police called simply because of their presence, they completed the move by 11:15. My review of 1 stars will remain, not because of the two employees who did an excellent job when they arrived, but because of the owner and anyone else in the office who proved to be impossible to communicate with. I didn’t receive any communication from the office/owner until the next day, despite repeated attempts over the course of hours.

Edit 2: The company waited a full year to respond? The contract was not in my name, but in my wife’s. I won’t be providing it here, and we have no interest in contacting the company to rehash this incident a year later, but I want anyone who views this review to rest assured I actually used the service - and never will again. I urge others not to take the chance.

We hired this company because of many positive reviews and were pretty disappointed. They came with a truck that was smaller than needed which resulted in having to make 2 trips between the residencies. This resulted not only in additional time needed but also in us having to go back and forth to accommodate this. While the residencies are pretty close, it was still a failure to provide an adequate sized truck. In addition, they damaged a ceiling lamp and refused to fix it or do anything about it when we raised it with the company and sent pictures. In the end they deducted inonly 10 minutes of moving time, which does NOT reflect the actual time worn going back and forth. When I reached out afterwards to acknowledge the issue and ask for additional refund, I was refused and the damaged lamp was still not addressed. In the end we were uncomfortable and disappointed. Moving is stressful enough without having to deal with this. Go with someone else!!

The business responded a year later with inaccurate information. Correct estimate of inventory was provided from the beginning and they still came up with a smaller truck. They absolutely damaged the hallway lamp and still refusing the acknowledge it. AND one of the moving guys kept giving attitude which was pretty uncomfortable in an already stressful situation.

We had an outstanding experience with this moving company. We ran into a tough situation where our couch couldn’t be brought up the staircase by the original delivery team, and we were stuck not knowing what to do next.

We called these guys around 2 PM, and they showed up by 3 PM ready to figure it out. Not only did they handle it, they went above and beyond — hoisting the couch three floors up through a window, carefully removing and reinstalling the window, and then fully assembling the couch inside. Everything was done efficiently and with a lot of care.

They wrapped up by 5 PM, and the whole process was smooth, professional, and honestly pretty impressive to watch. Huge shoutout to Alex and his crew for stepping in and saving the day.

Couldn’t recommend them highly enough. Truly great service. 🇰🇿🇰🇿

If you are moving long distance save yourself the headache of using this company. They out source my move to National Vanlines. This is one of the moving company's you hear horror stories of moving companies upping the price once they have your load. They raised mine by $2300. When i got my stuff yesterday boxes were smashed, fragile marked boxes were flipped upside down and things are broken. When I reached out to Father and Sons about the damage they passed the buck to National. They broke my dining room table, my wife's expensive electric bike is all twisted up, and some of our boxes were smashed. Also when they were unloading the truck i walked onto to the truck and to my horror the driver slammed a heavy box on top of one of my wife's Nightmare before Christmas limited edition disney piece. When I called him out on it his response was why you policing me on the broken items and continued to tell me that is what is wrong with America. I took photos. Sarah was a doll to talk to but other than that stay away from this company.
