A 100-plus-foot tree, and no bucket truck. A 2022 customer said the other companies they spoke with needed a bucket truck or a crane and warned of serious damage to the lawn and stone wall, while Joe Candido proposed climbing the tree and cutting it down. That 2022 customer said Joe came early on a Saturday morning with chainsaws and climbing tools, and that it took the entire day. Avalon Sunset Tree Services describes itself on its website as a tree-care business in Chittenden County, Vermont, and says it has 25 years in business. Its stated service area runs from Colchester, Essex and Milton to Shelburne, Charlotte, South Hero and Grand Isle. On Google it holds 5 stars from 34 ratings, and HomeAdvisor shows 5.0 from 29. A recent customer said Joe removed a large, heavy storm-damaged limb dangling high above the yard, then climbed other trees to take off limbs above a power line and over the roof. A recent customer said Joe took down a tree and branches encroaching on the roof and chopped up a huge oak that fell in the backyard; on the fallen oak, that customer said, he was flexible about price and suggested people who might cart the wood away. A recent customer said he landed the branches right where he said they would. A 2026 customer said Joe took down a large leaning oak with a fractured base hung up on another tree. A 2025 customer said they called Joe at 1 p.m. on a Saturday after a tree fell across the driveway, and he was at the house within 2 hours. A 2025 customer with a horse farm in Colchester said that after Joe spent the majority of one day there, the fence line along a steep drop-off was secure and the debris was cleaned up. A 2024 customer said Joe felled two of five big hemlocks and climbed the others, limbing on the way up and chunking the trunks on the way down, while avoiding damage to their camper and rhododendrons. A 2025 customer said they rented a chipper and made mulch from the branches themselves, and that this saved a lot of money over tree services that want to handle everything.
Joe at Avalon has done two different projects for us in the last couple months: He took down a tree and some branches that were encroaching on our roof and chopped up a huge oak that fell in our backyard. In both cases, Joe did the work speedily and well. He explained what he was doing and why. When the jobs were finished, he checked in to see if we were happy. With the fallen tree, he even suggested people who might be interested in carting the wood away. In that case, he also was quite flexible about price. He gave us a range of options and talked them through with us. Five stars! He was great.
Joe is an expert and takes time to analyse before doing the work. Everything is impeccable once done!
Joe removed a large, heavy storm damaged limb dangling from high above our yard. He also climbed other trees to remove limbs above a power line and over the roof. He was very professional. He was on time for all appointments. He offered suggestions based on his experience. His communication throughout the process was excellent. Joe was recommend by our neighbor. He delivered excellent value.
Joe did excellent job taking down some trees and cutting some big branches in some tough spots, he was able land the branches right where he said they would, he's very professional and I'll definitely be calling him again in the fall, thank you Joe for everything
Joe worked with skill and attention to take down a large leaning oak with a fractured base hung up on another tree. Thought through challenges as they arose. Fairly priced. Highly recommended.
