Bedford Handyman is a one-person outfit working out of Bedford, New Hampshire, taking on the kind of small jobs -- a patched wall, a rewired smoke alarm, a sink swap -- that bigger crews skip. The company's own site describes it as owner-operated by Ethan, focused on repairs, renovations, and yard work around town. The five reviews on file, all from Thumbtack over the past year, tell a fairly consistent story about someone who explains a job before starting, comes back if something's off, and takes on odd projects other contractors passed on -- smoke alarms, basement wiring, a bathroom remodel with a few hiccups that got sorted out. Thumbtack puts the rating at 4.8 from six ratings and lists 18 years in business. One thing worth asking about directly: the name attached to those reviews and to Thumbtack's background-check badge is John (Upham), not Ethan, the owner named on the company's own website. That could be an old Thumbtack account carried over from a previous owner, or it could mean two different businesses share this name in the same town -- worth confirming who's actually showing up before booking. A reasonable call for a short list of odd jobs -- a stuck door, a patch, a small remodel -- rather than a full renovation, but ask upfront who will be doing the work.
I cannot say enough good things about John. Not only us his workmanship top notch, he is just an all around pleasant/nice person. One thing I appreciate about him is he takes the time to explain your options until you have a complete understanding. His kids often work alongside him, and are just as pleasant/nice and talented. Definitely makes me want to be a better dad! :)
Hired John for a bathroom remodel. Was very informative, did everything he said he would do, and was very pleasant to work with. We had a couple hiccups, but John came back and fixed some things we noticed and everything came out great. We were very happy with the end result.
We were so pleased with all of the projects that we have worked with John on to improve our home. John completed a multitude of varied projects, all of which were executed with care and attention to detail and quality. John is very professional and is easy to communicate with. He is very creative and thoughtful when brainstorming ideas to help our vision come to life. We truly enjoyed working with John and will absolutely be working with him again!
I had a great experience with John! He provided exceptional service, & was incredibly responsive, arrived on time for our scheduled appointments, and completed the task. From replacing our sink to paint projects as needed. His pricing was fair, and he clearly explained the work needed before starting any project. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a reliable handyman.
John has done several small projects for us which other contractors thought weren't worth doing, but they were important for us. These included the refitting of smoke alarms, buttoning up some wiring in our basement, and modly patch in our bathroom. All of these were requested and completed in a timely manner, were done perfectly, and great value. John is our "go to guy" for those unexpected projects which pop up. I highly recommend him.
