Late arrivals and damaged belongings feature prominently in the 2016–2017 customer accounts of Best Value Movers, LLC. Angi lists moving, packing, storage, truck or container rental, piano moving, and furniture hoisting, with additional fees for hoisting. Its Angi rating is 2.4 stars from eight ratings. A customer writing in December 2017 said a piano delivery left deep tire marks in the yard after the truck backed into a flower garden, as well as dinged and scraped interior moldings. In a January 2017 review, another customer described a three-hour delay, poor packing, unwrapped furniture, damage to a laundry-unit exhaust hose and a cat climber, and a bed assembled incorrectly. That customer said belongings were left at the old location and the job remained unfinished after the manager returned. They also reported being pressured to pay by credit card despite a contract allowing a check. In November 2016, a customer describing a Lowell-to-Salem move reported a six-hour delay, a truck too small for the load, scratched antique furniture, and repeated unsuccessful efforts to resolve the damage. The customer also alleged that signed forms had been altered and described an 8% credit-card fee. A separate November 2016 customer said the bill was double the quote, a neighbor's cable connection was knocked down, and a grandfather-clock chime came off. Some customers praised the crews while criticizing scheduling and communication. One November 2016 reviewer said the crew worked hard and did a good job despite arriving four hours late and the owner becoming difficult to reach after booking. Another that month praised Scotty and the crew for finishing quickly, helping move heavier items already in the house, and working through darkness to complete the move.
When they delivered the piano, they had a terrible time lining their truck up with the door. As a result they backed into my flower garden and there are deep tire marks all over our yard. Inside the house moldings were dinged and scraped.
Terrible service! 3 hours late - I called when 45 min. late, was told they had trouble with their moving truck, had to rent one, would be there in 30 min. They arrived 2 hrs, 15 min. later. They were unprepared and unprofessional - had to borrow tools - poor packing, didn't label boxes, very slow moving, frequent texting interruptions, ran out of packing materials, didn't wrap furniture as stated, tore off exhaust hose from laundry unit when moving it into the truck, then left it on the front lawn for several hours before bringing it into the new location. When things were brought to the new location they weren't placed where I wanted them, the bed was not put together correctly, they broke one of the cat climbers, they left a sofa and loveseat in the garage stating they wouldn't fit through the doorways even with doors removed; but (my 19 and 20 year old nephew and niece were able to move them through those doorways!) While they were loading some items for a second trip, I went to new location to feed my cats, told them I would be back soon to check on things - they went to the new location before I returned so I wasn't able to check to be sure they got everything. They wouldn't accept a check for payment even though contract said check was acceptable, insisted on credit card info and refused to leave unless I gave it to them, so feeling threatened and intimidated I gave them the info, but credit card only covered part of payment ($500) and they had to take a check for the remaining amount ($425). After they left and I went to check the old location I found many items that they left in 2 storage rooms! I called and emailed the manager (Grant Williams) several times with no response, so I stopped payment on the check and then he got in touch with me threatening to bring me to court. To avoid that (even though I thought I would win) we agreed he would send a team to move the remaining items, but he came alone, only moved some of the items, then sneaked away! Job was never completed! Very unprofessional! I didn't get the service I paid for! It makes me sick to think I paid so much money for such terrible service and was threatened and intimidated into doing so! I would have given a negative rating if I could have, but the site wouldn't allow it.
BEWARE. If you seek a company that will cram your household furnishings into a TINY UHAUL by two movers who arrive six hours late, and then be jerked around with promises for two months about items that were damaged (due to the cramming) then these are your guys. On September 24th Best Value Movers arrived to move my household from Lowell to Salem. When I set up the contract, I had been asked - by Grant -- a VERY brief set of questions about the large furniture I had to move, which I answered. Their website boasted a large moving truck and experienced, professional movers. The two movers arrived with a very small U-Haul and said there was no way they could fit everything. They spent the first 45 minutes (@ their hourly rate of $109) sorting out what o do and trying to contact their boss (Grant) who was not calling them back. The workers mentioned that this had happened before (being sent with too small of a truck) and that Grant was not good about answering or returning phone calls. The movers finally said they would try to fit it all in the truck in one load. The movers did a good job but it took MUCH longer because of all the time it took to fit stuff in and then, the next day I discovered several items were damaged. The finish was scratched badly on my antique table and a rare antique dentist cabinet. I must have called Grant 30 times since then. He has NEVER called me back. Still I remained patient and reasonable, willing to help arrive at a fair way to get my items repaired. When I could get a hold of him he would be evasive and stall for time, saying he needed to "look up my records" and then dropping the call but then when I would call back he would reassure me saying things like "we want to take care of this for you." He promised me over and over again that he would, but each time he said he would be back in touch and then... nothing. Today, because as it turns out he actually is without a spine, he passed me off to a secretary who told me that I had not submitted the pictures soon enough (I made the claim less than 24 hours after the move). Then Grant sent forms I had signed that had been altered after the fact and called me negligent for not reading them before I signed them. Another reviewer on another site complained about a similar circumstance and I think by using small trucks - he does not own the truck on the website -- and planning poorly he tries to pad the hours by charging for double trips and extra packing time. Plus he is just weasel to deal with. Oh yeah and the *8% fee* to use your credit card because you never imagined you would need so much cash on hand!!! I'm taking them to small claims court.
They quoted one price charged double, no pads or lifts to carry out furniture. 3 hrs late worked in the dark, knocked down cable connection to neighbor cable still not fixed. My grandfather clock had one of the chimes fell off. I called and asked them to call me back never did. Never again, please don't -recommend them to anyone.
Scotty and crew could not have been better. Great guys, very professional, went above and beyond with the move. Finished very quickly. Great experience and would not hesitate to use them again. Went out of their way to help me move some of the heavier items that were already in the house. Worked through darkness with no lights at the end to get the move done. If you're in the process of moving use these guys!
