Black Diamond Landscapes is built for the whole property rather than one job. The Woburn company lists landscape maintenance and construction, hardscape and masonry, irrigation, landscape lighting, snow and ice management, and firewood, for residential, commercial and municipal clients around Metropolitan Boston. Joe Cusce, Jr. runs it as president, with Joseph and Justin Cusce named as contacts, and the site puts the company at 15 years in. The written history is short, and it stops early. Both reviews on file were posted in 2022. One came from a client of five-plus years who ran through the whole range — hardscapes, snow removal, sod, mowing, planting, mulching, irrigation — and called the crew hardworking. A June 2022 review described a large project that turned what the homeowner called a mud pit of a yard into planted lawn, with two kinds of arborvitae set along the perimeter. Google's average sits below what those two suggest: 4.1 across 7 ratings. The sour note is a complaint posted to a listing site, with no date on it, from a customer who said rhododendrons they had planted began dying almost immediately and that they dealt with Joe Cusce over several return visits. It is one anonymous account and it can't be placed in time — but plant establishment is a fair thing to raise before signing, along with what happens when something doesn't take. The trade credentials here are the company's own: it names the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute and the National Concrete Masonry Association, both a fit for paver and wall work. BuildZoom lists a Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration for the firm and scores it 91, though that is BuildZoom's own record rather than a state confirmation — and Massachusetts exempts landscaping-only contractors from that registration in any case. Neither BuildZoom nor Houzz carries a single customer review. Stated coverage runs Woburn, Arlington, Lexington, Belmont, Winchester, Burlington, Reading and Cambridge. For a crew you keep on the property year-round, the 2022 accounts read well. Ask for current references and a written plant warranty before you commit, because very little has been written about the work since.
“On the petition by Black Diamond Landscapes, Inc., 33 Ryder Street, Arlington, Massachusetts 02476, for a special permit to modify Landowner’s Decision and Notice of Special Permit dated February 13, 2020”
“I had eight rhododendron’s planted by Black Diamond. Almost immediately they began to die. I dealt with the owner of Black Diamond, Joe Cusce. He came out several times to look at the dying bushes. He agreed it was not an issue of watering too much or not enough. Bushes were dying one branch at a time while the rest of the bush looked healthy.”
I have worked with Joe Cusce for 5+ plus years. He does just about everything, hardscapes, snow removal, sod, mowing, planting, mulching, irrigation, they really do it all from starting a project, to ongoing maintenance. What's even better find him and his crew to be very hardworking, kind, and courteous.
We just completed a large landscaping project with Black Diamond Landscaping. Owner Joe Cusce and his team did an incredible job transforming our mud pit of a yard into a beautiful and lush green paradise. Joe planted two kinds of arborvitae installed along the perimeter of the yard, linked with a gorgeous pear tree in one corner, that now provides us with great privacy from our neighbors. Joe’s recommendation were right on the mark for what we were looking to achieve in adding privacy to our yard. He also selected and planted several varieties of flowering bushes that will provide us with great seasonal color and coverage. We had little to no grass in our yard and with the installation of sod to the front, side and back yard we now have an amazing sea of green. Black Diamond also removed several tree trunks, roots and bushes from the yard and built a stone border around the perimeter of the underside of our deck and filled with stones to make it look neater and cleaner. We are so happy with the complete landscape renovation that Black Diamond Landscaping did to transform our yard. His guys were professional and worked incredibly hard to get the work done. In fact, we are having them come back later this year to install a new front walkway and driveway for us. I highly recommend Black Diamond Landscaping, and so glad that I chose them to complete this project!
