BLC Painting is a woman-owned residential painting company Brooke Cambridge has run out of Salem, Massachusetts since 2006, working across the North Shore and into greater Boston — Marblehead, Beverly, Newburyport and more than a dozen other towns by its own count. She says she's put in more than 25 years in the painting trade; a 2021 Fine Homebuilding profile and a 2014 North Shore Magazine piece both described how she ended up founding the company after landing her first painting job unexpectedly. The written record here runs unusually deep for a small painting outfit: a dozen distinct Houzz reviews dated from 2013 to 2025, every one five stars, most naming Brooke directly along with a longtime crew member, Santos. They describe real, different jobs — a 2021 review from the owner of a 215-year-old Salem home who wanted the exterior handled with restoration in mind, a 2015 scrape-and-paint of a vintage Dutch Colonial, a small kitchen repaint, and a bathroom and closet doors a previous contractor had botched. Several are repeat customers; a 2023 review mentions hiring the company three times over the years. In an August 2025 review, a homeowner called the exterior and garage work on their house 'truly exceptional' for its attention to detail. Houzz shows a 5.0 average from 30 ratings and seven Houzz Awards; Porch separately shows 5.0 from 80 ratings. A 2026 Reddit thread in r/SalemMA also praises Brooke and her crew, unprompted. Most of the retrievable written detail comes from one platform, Houzz — its page holds 12 full review bodies out of the 30 it counts. Houzz and BuildZoom both list a Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor license number, 172643, for the business. BuildZoom separately shows an earlier registration, 157868. The company's own site lists the same number, plus a separate Lead-Safe Renovation Contractor number. Its certifications include Benjamin Moore Stain Certified Specialist, OSHA-30 safety training and Painting Contractors Association membership, per its own listings. This is a strong option for anyone in the Salem/North Shore area planning an interior or exterior repaint, especially on an older or historic home — the decade-plus run of specific, repeat-customer reviews is hard to fake. Given the shop's reputation, expect to book ahead; ask which of the two directory-listed registration numbers is the one on file with the state before signing a contract.
“I cannot say enough (honestly amazing) things about Brooke and her crew at BLC painting!!!”
“After unexpectedly landing her first painting job 22 years ago, Brooke now finds herself doing the hiring as founder and owner of BLC Painting.”
“But that’s exactly what happened last fall for 32-year-old Brooke Cambridge, owner of BLC Painting in Salem.”
Brooke and her team just painted the exterior of our house and garage and did an amazing job. We are very impressed by the level of detail and the time they took to do everything just right. Truly an exceptional job!
We recently had BLC paint the exterior of our home, and had a wonderful experience. We received quotes from three other painting firms, and BLC was not the lowest price, but was BY FAR the easiest to communicate with, and displayed a high degree of knowledge and professionalism. We checked references and decided to go with BLC. From that point forward, everything flowed like clock-work. Brooke visited multiple times to assure they understood our needs, and made several suggestions to help us achieve them. She gave us a timeline, and sure enough, painters showed up as promised. They were on-site every day (except for a rain day), and worked FULL days … one day not leaving until close to 8:00 pm (while our other workers did their usual 3:45 clean up to be gone by 4:00). They finished the project in about a week, cleaned up perfectly, and Brooke did a walk through with us to make sure everything was as we wished. The final product looks great! It is newly completed, so can't speak to it's durability yet, but everything in me tells me that Brooke will stand by this job should there be any future problems. Highly recommend BLC painting, and feel certain we will use them again for any future needs (we have an interior job coming next spring). You should certainly include them in your plans for any painting needs.
Fabulous interior work by BLC Painting!! Brooke provided guidance on color selection and the painters were punctual, neat and professional. I have hired Brooke's company three times over the years to paint rooms in my home - with excellent results every time.
We are very happy with BLC team. The crew did a great job prepping the house for a much needed paint job. Very courteous and professional. The job was finished on schedule. We have received many compliments on it's new look and have already given recommendations to neighbors looking to have some painting done! Bob B. Salem, Ma.
Your guys are so professional. Great work, very clean, very careful, excellent results. The best paint work we have ever had (except for maybe the team you sent to us years ago). Very nice people too. Great job! TY!
