A Nor'easter took out a tree that took out a customer's front stairway, solid stone built in 1936, and Bolton removed the damage and rebuilt it from the ground up, according to a recent Google review. That customer said the company also replaced the destroyed lamppost and installed LED lighting, and named Jeff as its president. Bolton Landscape Design & Masonry says on its website that it is based in Fairfield County, Connecticut, serving communities such as Weston, New Canaan and Ridgefield as well as Westchester County, New York. It also says it has been in business 40 years. It holds 4.6 stars on Google from 9 ratings and 4.6 stars on Houzz from 15 ratings. A 2018 Houzz reviewer described a transformation that included 30 evergreens, 10 deciduous trees and more than 25 hydrangeas, plus stonework around the pool, and said Bolton coordinated improvements to the irrigation system. A 2018 reviewer wrote that Jeff and Bolton planted dozens of trees, built stone walls and stairs, created a sunken patio and installed landscape lighting. A 2018 customer described a driveway reconstruction with cobblestone to protect the existing grated drainage, plus masonry steps that refurbished a circa-1942 structure, and said the job estimate was on target. A 2018 reviewer said they expanded their back yard with Jeff, which entailed drilling into ledge, bringing in fill and creating a fenced-in area. A 2018 reviewer said Jeff, the owner, personally stayed with them until the project was complete. A 2025 Google reviewer said Bolton updated their landscaping, removed an old driveway and built part of a stone wall, and called the quality of the work good. In 2025, that reviewer also said Jeff stopped communicating when it was time to replace a Colorado Blue Spruce and other plants that died, even though he guarantees plants and trees for one year when an irrigation system is in place. The 2025 reviewer said emails and calls went unanswered, and that Jeff hung up when the reviewer's husband called his cell. Connecticut lists its home improvement contractor registration, HIC.0551905, as active, held by Bolton Landscape Design & Masonry Inc.
A Nor'easter took out a tree that took out my front stairway. Solid stone, built in 1936. Bolton removed the damage and rebuilt it from the ground up. They also replaced my destroyed lamppost and installed incredible LED lighting. They were joy to work with from beginning to end, starting with Jeff, their president, and ending with the amazing installation crew. You can see the quality of the work in the pictures. You won't find better. BTW, the wrought iron railings in the final picture were by Riverside Fencing, who put me onto Jeff and Bolton in the first place.
Bolton updated all of our landscaping, removed an old driveway and constructed part of a stone wall. The quality of the work was good and we had a fine relationship with Jeff, the owner, until he suddenly stopped communicating with us when it was time to replace the trees and plants that did not survive. He guarantees the plants/trees for one year if an irrigation system is in place, which we have. A big Colorado Blue Spruce tree died, as well as several other plants. I emailed Jeff numerous times, called the office, called his cell, but received no reply. When my husband called his cell, Jeff hung up on him. We would not recommend Bolton because of Jeff's lack of professionalism that came to light after all payments were made. We now have to replace a lot of things that we should not have to pay for.
Bolton Landscaping did the landscaping for our home three years ago and continues to maintain our property to this date. Owner Jeff Lapnow is always responsive to our needs and returns our email messages quickly. He has a good sense of blending different plantings around a property to make it colorful and attractive. His firm also provides lighting and snow removal services.
We were so lucky to have found Jeff when we embarked on an extensive landscaping project at our home a couple of years ago. We ended up expanding our back yard, which entailed drilling into ledge, bringing in fill, landscape design with new tree specimens, and creating a fenced in area afterward (all of which Jeff was able to address). We also use his weekly landscaping services and plowing during the winter. Highly recommend!!
We have lived in our home nearly 20 years. Over that period of time we have had a variety of landscaping projects and makeovers that required careful planning with numerous types of materials and equipment. Bolton Landscape has offered us creative and beautiful solutions to complex issues on our property. We have installed stone patios and walls, wooden fences, terraced hills, replaced a driveway and planted a variety of trees and shrubs under Jeff's creative vision and careful supervision. The result has been stunning. Our yard is truly a paradise. Everyone that visits comments on how well planned and harmonious our property is. We highly recommend Bolton Landscape and Design.
