Boston Carpentry started out framing houses in Hyde Park and has grown, by its own account, into a sizable wood-framing operation — the company says it has framed 3 million square feet of multiunit construction within six years, split between a commercial division (hotels, assisted living, student housing, multi-family buildings) and a residential arm doing decks, additions, roofing, siding and finish work.
The company, incorporated in October 2015, is run by Mario Mejia and Mildred Mejia and describes itself as family-, woman- and minority-owned. It's based at a Hyde Park address, with ten employees according to the Better Business Bureau.
The written record on file is thin but consistent: nine reviews, all five stars, spread from January 2021 to April 2023. A 2022 BuildZoom review of a bathroom project called the crew well organized, on time, and in constant communication, and noted the site was cleaned of debris. A 2023 HomeAdvisor reviewer hired them for basement framing, liked the result enough to bring them back for drywall and ceilings, and described the whole job as professional, on time and on budget. The oldest review on file, from January 2021, is a short "excellent communication, honest and helpful."
Two things are worth asking about directly before booking. A federal district court granted summary judgment in 2025 against Boston Carpentry LLC in a suit brought by a union carpenters' benefits collection agency over unpaid contributions — worth asking how that was resolved. Separately, BuildZoom's data shows the company holds an active Massachusetts construction supervisor license alongside a different registration — a Home Improvement Contractor number, 188515 — that state records list as having been cancelled at one point; the two are not the same license, so it's worth confirming current status for whatever license type a given project needs. Its BBB page currently shows no accreditation for the business.
Boston Carpentry looks like the right call for framing-heavy work — additions, decks, multi-unit or commercial framing — where its written history and its own marketing both point. For a full remodel or work outside carpentry and framing, ask specifically what gets subcontracted, and get current license numbers and insurance in writing before signing anything.
