Dao Construction is a Dorchester general contractor built almost entirely on repeat and referred business — forty-six reviews across Google and Angi going back to 2018, most of them naming the same two people: owner Wayne Dao and his father Sonny. The recurring job that keeps coming up is decks: rebuilding a rotting deck, adding a two-level deck, turning a small deck plan into a bigger structure with underneath storage and a pergola instead of an awning. Flooring is the other constant — hardwood refinishing and installation, tile, and laminate show up across the review history, including a customer who wrote in a late-2025 review that they'd hired Wayne for ten years running. Beyond decks and floors, reviewers describe kitchen and bath work (removing a pantry wall to open up a kitchen, tiling a bathroom, a new kitchen floor), carpentry (baseboards with mitered corners, stair treads, a new set of back stairs), and smaller jobs like a screen door and gate, a rotted sunroom support post, and window and door replacement. A common thread across the write-ups is that Wayne shows up, communicates through the project, and cleans up after himself — several reviewers specifically call out a spotless job site. The record isn't spotless, though: in a 2020 Angi review, a customer describes a hardwood and baseboard job that went badly — thinner material than the contract specified, a scratch and divot in the new floor, a torn thermostat line to the boiler, and a contract that was never finished, with Wayne going unresponsive. It's the one clearly negative account in an otherwise long, consistent run of positive ones, and it's old enough now that it's worth asking current references about rather than assuming it reflects how the company operates today. The company's Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active, and it holds a 4.7★ Angi rating from 53 ratings and a 5★ Google rating from 22 ratings. It isn't BBB-accredited and carries no BBB rating, though the BBB page lists it at 12 years in business.
Wayne and his staff did a great job installing windows and doors as well as replace some trim work. The prices were reasonable and the quality of work was excellent. My neighbor referred me to Wayne. Wayne had built a sunroom for my neighbor and was pleased with his work.I will definitely be calling Wayne again!
Wayne Dao and his father Sonny are wonderful. They show up on time, they are meticulous in their work and considerate of your home. I highly recommend Wayne Dao
Wayne was amazing throughout the entire process. He took out my pantry, put in tile and backsplash, did the cabinets and countertops and even did my half bath! The also removed hallways that had separated my kitchen and dinning room opening up the whole space. I could not be happier!
Wayne has done a couple of projects on our house (sistering attic beams and installing a kitchen vent fan), and both were done well and on time. Wayne is very responsive and I expect to rely on him again.
Wayne, Sonny and crew were great. They did the work over a holiday weekend on time and on budget. Cleaned up and bathroom / shower were ready to use on the following Monday (flooring and tile work)
