Framing is the spine of what Boston Carpentry does. Its site describes a commercial division that frames multi-unit wood buildings and a residential division handling additions, roofing, decks, siding and window and door replacement across New England, and its BBB listing names single-family homes, multifamily projects, assisted living facilities, student housing and hotels among the project types. BBB puts the company in Hyde Park, incorporated in 2015, with 10 employees across two Massachusetts locations and Mildred Mejia and Mario Mejia as its managers; the page carries an A+. The company's own site says founder Mario Mejia co-owns the business with Mildred Mejia and calls it family, woman and minority owned. On Reddit in January 2025, a commenter in r/boston said the company was doing their kitchen at the time and had "been great". Two things belong in the first conversation. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, number 188515, is expired on the state registry — ask whether it has been renewed before you sign anything or pay a deposit. And there is a federal wage case: a worker-rights page describes construction workers who claimed their employer, Boston Carpentry LLC operating as Tavola, failed to pay them properly under federal wage laws, and a February 2025 order addressed the plaintiffs' motion for summary judgment in that case, which a court-docket tracker records as granted. This is an outfit built for structural carpentry at scale — an addition, a multi-unit frame, a full exterior — more than for small finish jobs. If that is your project, get the registration's current status in writing, settle the contract and payment schedule up front, and ask which location and which crew would actually run the work.
