The firm's Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, #197377, is verified active against the state registry in the name of Boyd Builders, Inc. BuildZoom shows nine permitted projects across Essex, Wenham, Danvers, Rowley, Manchester, Topsfield and Beverly — basement finishes, bathroom renovations, window and door replacements, a shed dormer, and a kitchen expansion in Wenham permitted at $424,965 — and scores the company 93, which it places in the top 27% of Massachusetts licensed contractors. In an April 2025 LinkedIn post, a designer described starting work with Boyd Builders as a residential contractor and small construction business on the North Shore.
Two things are worth raising before you sign. BuildZoom lists the current registration as issued 12-02-2025 and shows an earlier Massachusetts home improvement contractor licence, #170548, as inactive and, per its reading of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation records, at one point cancelled — a straightforward question to put to Nate Boyd, since a fifteen-year history and a licence issued in late 2025 need an explanation. BuildZoom also files the company as Boyd Builders, LLC at 42 County Road rather than Boyd Builders, Inc. at 245 Western Ave, so confirm which entity your contract names.
The permit trail points to a builder comfortable with structural, permit-heavy work — dormers, basement conversions, a six-figure kitchen expansion — rather than small handyman calls, and the stated service area is tight: Beverly, Essex, Danvers, Hamilton and Wenham. If your project sits in those towns and involves opening up the house, ask for addresses from the Wenham and Topsfield jobs, a written schedule, and the registration number on the contract so you can check it against the state registry yourself.
