Thirty written reviews since 2022, and not one of them describes a job that went wrong. That is the first thing to know about M&P Home Renovation, a Peabody remodeling contractor whose Google page sits at 5 stars across 64 ratings. The company says it was founded in 1999 by Paulo Mendes, who started out working construction alongside his father in the 1990s before opening his own shop, and it puts its tenure at 27 years. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, number 194571, is active in the state registry under the company's own name. The work people actually hire them for is the full room, not a piece of it. A homeowner in July 2025 described a bathroom in a 1908 house taken down to the studs, claw-foot tub and all, and rebuilt to the design they wanted. Another, writing in May 2024, put numbers on it: over 900 square feet of finished basement, added as a living room, gym and bedroom-office, chosen because the quote came in competitively against the others they collected. A February 2026 customer had two bathrooms redone, a basement converted to an in-law unit, plus painting, flooring and lighting on the same job. Kitchens run through the record just as steadily, including a February 2025 remodel a customer said held both budget and timeline. Paulo's name, not a salesperson's, is the one that recurs — often years apart. Several reviewers are on their second project with the crew: a 2020 kitchen followed by a basement in 2025, two houses' worth of work between 2021 and 2022, gutters and trim after an earlier interior repaint. Subcontractors come up constantly and always by way of the same point, that the coordination held together. Two things are worth raising before you sign. A January 2025 customer who had a four-season sunroom and attached storage room built said the project took a bit longer than expected, though they were pleased with the finished room. And a May 2024 bathroom client mentioned change orders that came up along the way — handled fairly, in their telling, but they existed. Both are the ordinary friction of remodeling work; ask how schedule slips and mid-job changes get priced, and get it in writing. The fit here is a homeowner planning a whole bathroom, kitchen or basement rather than a single fixture swap, who wants one contractor holding the trades together. Confirm the registration number against the state's Contractor Hub, and ask for the customer list the company says on its site it will provide.
We recently used M&P Home Renovations to perform a complete kitchen and living space renovation. We were very happy with all the work that was done. The kitchen and living area space looks awesome! Paulo and his crew along with sub contractors were all very professional, courteous and easy to work with. Paulo kept us informed of everything that was going to happen on a day to day basis and answered all of our questions when we had them. The construction included some great space saving ideas where Paulo suggested that he could frame a bump out section to inset the refrigerator into one of the walls. This allowed us an additional space to be used for another set of upper and lower cabinets. He also reframed an old closet in the living space to construct a coffee/wine bar with a countertop and upper and lower cabinets that looks great! We would certainly recommend M&P Home Renovations to anyone looking to have a construction project done!
Paulo and his team were an absolute pleasure to work with! They helped us bring our dream bathroom to life at an affordable price and the tile work came out better than we had imagined! We will definitely be using M&P for future projects.
I was honestly terrified to renovate our home, but Paulo and his team completely changed that experience for us. What I expected to be stressful and overwhelming turned out to be unbelievably smooth — truly the smoothest renovation I can imagine — and it was all because of how incredible Paulo was throughout the entire process. From day one, he was organized, communicative, and collaborative. Every crew that came through was professional and left the house spotless at the end of each day. There were no surprises, no last-minute chaos, and no budget shocks — everything stayed on schedule and exactly within the price we agreed on. Paulo consistently shared his expertise and worked with us on decisions so we always felt confident and involved. The end result honestly looks like something out of a magazine. I would (and already have) recommend Paulo to anyone without hesitation. If you’re nervous about renovating, he’s the person you want on your team. We renovated the whole house — gutted the kitchen and living room, vaulted the ceilings, and finished the basement integrating into the house as living space. We also added a laundry room and full bath. It was completed in less than 3 months.
Paulo and his team did an incredible job on our home renovations. They renovated 2 bathrooms, turned our basement into an in-law and handled our painting, flooring, and lighting upgrades. Through every step from planning to finishing touches they were professional, dependable, and detail-oriented. The quality of their work is outstanding, and we couldn’t be happier with the results! We highly recommend M&P Home Renovations for any home project you may have!
