Ninety permits and one review — and the review is a one-star. The permit side is real work. Brent Dobson has pulled 90 plumbing permits, eleven of them in the last three years, across Methuen, Malden, Boston, Charlestown, Brookline and Newton Center, with a typical job value near $5,000. It is a one-man shop run out of 3 Westland St in Methuen. The customer side is a single account, and it is rough. In July 2024 a homeowner who hired him for kitchen, bath and outside work at about $1,000 wrote that he overcharged for low-quality work that had to be fixed afterwards, and that he repeatedly failed to show up to finish what he had started, changing the schedule again and again. That is a specific complaint about the work itself rather than a vague gripe, and it is the only thing anyone who hired him has said in public. It is also two years old, and nothing published since either confirms or contradicts it. BuildZoom's score of 89 sits directly beside that review, but it counts permits, not opinions — it is not a second, happier verdict. The licence line settles nothing in either direction. BuildZoom prints the same number, 16345, three times: once as an active Massachusetts plumber licence flagged "License Not Verified," and twice as inactive municipal registrations noted as at one point cancelled. If you do call him, pin down scheduling and completion up front, get the scope and price in writing before anything starts, ask for references from jobs finished in the past year, and look his plumber licence up with the state yourself.
