Every one of the three reviews on file for Building Unit Conversions describes structural work: a commercial framing job in Charlestown, a two-storey back porch torn down and rebuilt on fresh cement footings, and a set of decks. John Feroli is the name that appears in all three. The company works out of 14 Norwood St. in Dorchester and lists a service area of 47 towns, Nahant among them. Its Thumbtack page states 25 years in business with a three-person crew and 48 project photos; Houzz carries a long remodeling menu — kitchens, baths, basements, additions, decks and porches — plus Angie's List Super Service Awards for 2010, 2011 and 2013 through 2016. Here is the thing to weigh hardest: its written history runs to 2018 and stops there. Thumbtack shows a clean 5.0 across three ratings, and the 2018 comments are specific rather than gushing — the porch customer wrote that immediate neighbours kept remarking on how it looked, and the framing client described someone who stayed responsive and flexible while coordinating with the other trades already on site. Three reviews, all eight years old, is a thin basis for a verdict, and nothing here speaks to how the business runs today. On licensing, treat what the directories print as unconfirmed. Houzz lists licence number 10880 for the company and Thumbtack displays a Massachusetts Construction Supervisor badge; neither was checked against the state registry, and directory licence entries routinely attach to a similarly-named business. If you are weighing them for framing, a porch or a deck rebuild, those 2018 accounts are concrete and worth something. Go in asking for current references and recent addresses you can drive past, and get the licence number in writing so you can look it up against the state registry yourself.
John was very responsive and great to work with. The value was fair and we are extremely pleased with the way our decks came out.
John helped us with some framing work in a commercial space in Charlestown. He was incredibly responsive, and flexible. Given that our business was in the process of moving in to the space in question and John had to communicate with some of the other contractors we were working with, he was very helpful and the work he did looks great! I would recommend his services to anyone looking for framing carpentry.
John Feroli tore down my 2-story wood frame back porch and rebuilt it from the ground up, including new cement footings. It is both solidly constructed and attractive. All my immediate neighbors have commented on how good it looks.
