Several of BuiltSmart's 2018 and 2019 clients describe the same two people: Justin, the owner, who met them at the quote, and a project manager who turned up with ideas. A May 2018 reviewer valued being able to talk to that manager directly, and said she laid out the potential problems and the workarounds before the work began; a February 2019 homeowner credited her suggestions with changing how the house looked after an addition. The jobs people wrote about are mid-size interior work. In March 2018 a couple's old basement became a playroom, and the reviewer said Justin held the project to budget apart from the carpet they picked out themselves. A condo owner that May had a bathroom renovated and called the work quick and thorough. In July 2018 another customer had a second floor redone — wallpaper off, fresh paint, carpet out, new flooring in — on what they called an efficient timeline. Two accounts run the other way, both on BuildZoom. In January 2020 a client wrote that after a year the company could not produce the architectural plans they wanted, delivered an outdoor plot plan instead, and kept the 10 percent downpayment; their sign-off was "Stay away!" In April 2019 another reviewer praised the detail of the quote but said it came in significantly higher than three others. That mix is why BuildZoom's 4.5 average across 12 ratings sits below the 5.0 from four ratings on Angi and HomeAdvisor. The written accounts here run 2018 to 2020. On the state registry, the company's Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, #186200, is expired; BuildZoom lists a construction supervisor licence among several records, and Houzz lists CS-110367. For a basement, a bathroom or a second-floor refresh with the owner at the table, the 2018 accounts describe that experience directly. Before you sign, ask what is happening with the home improvement contractor registration the state lists as expired, put the deposit and any refund terms in writing, and take a second bid on the price.

In the end he couldn't do the architectural plans we wanted after a year of leading is on. Then did an out door plot plan and after paying a 10 percent downpayment didn't get a refund after only getting a plot plan. Stay away!

I had a positive experience with not only the owner of the business but his project manager and crew. His project manager made a view suggestions that made a huge difference in the visual appeal of my house. I have received so many compliments since adding this addition to my home. The project was done expediently even though I know they had a lot of other projects that they were working on and it rained a lot. We ran into some unforeseen problems and they accommodated them with no difficulty. Also I thought Justin priced the project very fairly and I was pleased with both the work both structurally and ascetically.

First, I met with the owner who is an architect/builder. He gave me a great quote and reassured me the quality would be top notch. I had a positive experience working with him because he is a trustworthy guy. His project manager was great! She made some design suggestions that were fantastic. The quality of the construction was terrific and the transformation was remarkable. We ran into some unforeseen problems and they accommodated them easily. Since the build has had so many compliments on both the design and the visual appeal. I tend to do my own work so it was one of the first times that I hired out to have work done. I am really happy with my experience with Justin, his project manager, and crew.

I met with Justin, who is the owner of the business. He assured me at the beginning of the project that he could do what I was asking. After meeting with him it was not long after that I was able to establish a build date. I worked with his project manager who had some creative ideas for the front of my home. I wanted to build a farmers porch. I told her that in addition to having a farmers porch I was going to have the front of the house resided. She said that they could match anything that the other company was proposing. She then made some design suggestions. I changed the color of the house and went with some of her suggestions which resulted in a remarkably different look that enhanced the visual appeal of my house. The builders worked very closely with me and were very timely with this project. It was difficult because it was a very rainy fall and after they tore the siding off there were some structural problems that neither of us anticipated. I was impressed with their craftsmanship and their work ethic. In addition, to this, the job was completed, not only, in a timely manner but was also very reasonably priced. I do most of my carpentry and structural work myself so this was unusual for me to hire someone but it was a positive experience and fantastic outcome.
