Burke Plumbing & Heating has built a following in southeastern Massachusetts largely on emergency HVAC saves — the recurring story in its reviews is a homeowner already told by other companies that their AC or furnace needed a full, expensive replacement, only to have the owner, James Burke (Jim), show up and fix the actual problem instead. The Norton-based company holds an A+ grade from the Better Business Bureau and does plumbing, heating and air conditioning work. That save-not-replace pattern repeats across multiple 2026 reviews: one customer says four different companies told them they needed a brand-new central air system before Jim came out the next day, fixed the real problem, and saved them the cost of a replacement; another says an AC over 20 years old had already been written off by three companies before Jim diagnosed and repaired it instead of selling a $25,000-plus swap. The company also shows up for genuine emergencies — a tub-drain leak going through a ceiling the day after Christmas 2024 was fixed within the hour by two plumbers, and a pregnant customer whose AC failed mid-summer says the owner personally came out and had it running again quickly. Technicians Everardo Ramos and Jim get named repeatedly for plumbing and HVAC repairs going back to 2022. Pricing is the recurring friction point, though, and not just once. In an August 2026 review — the most recent negative on file — a customer says Burke quoted $3,000 for a water heater replacement, then tried to add $600 for a "ten-minute job" the plumber on-site admitted was simple, calling it "company pricing"; the customer sent them home. It echoes older complaints: a 2023 reviewer says a Mitsubishi mini-split visit left the AC still not working while Burke billed $650 for coolant work on what should be a closed system, and another 2023 review describes a $99 "introductory rate" plus a freon charge that didn't fix the problem, followed by an $800-900 quote to do it properly. A 2022 review calls a simple hose repair "way more than work done." None of this points to a pattern of bad workmanship — the technical fixes mostly land — but it's worth getting a firm, written price before work starts. For a genuine HVAC diagnosis, especially on a system another company has already written off, Burke's reviews suggest a real shot at avoiding a costly replacement — just get the price for any add-on work in writing before it's done.
This was a classic bait-and-switch on a water heater replacement. The company came out the day before to inspect the job and quoted $3,000. On the day of the installation, they tried to tell me they couldn't disconnect the old unit. I looked at it myself and easily pulled it off the existing PVC piping. They then claimed they would have to rework about a foot of PVC and that this would add $600 to the bill — a ten-minute job that the plumber on site acknowledged was simple but insisted was just "company pricing." I sent them home.
Yes the work done was professionally
This company has gone above and beyond what I expected there was no B/S. I would refer anyone and everyone to this company.
He responded promptly to our request. Identify the issue and what we need for next steps to correct the problem! Highly recommend!
Burke is hands down the best plumbing/HVAC crew in southeastern Massachusetts. My wife and I bought our dream home about 4 years ago but found out the hard way about some systems that needed upgrading - a central A/C condenser that needed to be replaced at the peak of summer, a tankless hot water system that stopped getting hot right when the weather started getting cold, and then most recently, our second zone A/C condenser stopped working right before the major heatwave of July 2026 hit. Every time, Burke stepped up to the plate and got us taken care of quickly, professionally, and with an extremely reasonable price. Also, a quick note about Everardo - the tech who has handled all of the work on our home: He is a true professional that knows these systems inside and out. He takes the time to explain what's going on and what he's doing, and to someone like me who is more comfortable with a keyboard than a wrench, that means everything. He's always on time, gets right to work on diagnosing and fixing the problem, and he's honest about what's going on. It doesn't get much better than that! Now that we've become acquainted over the years, I introduced him to our new 4 month old daughter as her uncle and I mean it! A huge thank you to Burke and especially Everardo for the top notch service and support.
