Almost everything on the public record about CAAN Fence Inc. is contract paperwork rather than customer stories. A MassDOT plan-holder page lists CAAN FENCE INC at 9 Weldon St in Dorchester, an MBTA business-center listing names Caan Fence, a Town of Franklin page puts the company beside a $58,430 figure, and the GSA's eLibrary carries CAAN FENCE, INC of Dorchester under federal schedule contract 47QSMS26D005H. Boston.gov's own pages have named the Dorchester firm as recently as March 2026. By its own description this is a commercial and industrial outfit, not a backyard-fence shop: a union fencing contractor that installs and repairs ornamental steel, aluminum, vinyl, wood, wrought iron, chain-link, temporary fencing and bollards for businesses, warehouses, construction sites and industrial facilities. Who runs it, and how they describe themselves, is unusually well documented. The company says it is minority- and women-owned and certified as a DBE, MBE, WBE, WOSB, EDWOSB and Section 3 business, with GNEMSDC certification plus American Fence Association and Massachusetts Minority Contractors Association membership — its own claims, none of them checked here against the certifying registries. A BBB "Behind the Business" story from August 2023 fills in the history: president Carlene Damon describes founding the company with her husband in 2012 as immigrants, going full-time in 2015, and turning it into a union company in 2019. A May 2024 article on telegram.com reported that clients rate her work highly and seek her out to meet diversity quotas for jobs. Two things to pin down before calling. The website claims over 30 years of experience, which doesn't square with the 2012 founding date in the BBB story and a newsletter profile — worth asking whose thirty years those are. And the marketing aims squarely at businesses and facilities, while one newsletter profile describes residential fencing as well, so ask directly whether they take house work. No customer review history surfaced on any platform, which is why there's no rating here — this is a company visible through its contracts, not through the people who hired it. Fencing-only contractors are exempt from Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, so there is no state licence to look up either. For a general contractor or public agency that needs a certified diverse fencing sub with real public-project mileage, the paper trail is there; a homeowner should ask for recent residential references first.
