Calmo's Masonry & Painting is a Malden, Massachusetts outfit that's built its reputation on stone and brick, not just paint. Guillermo Matias Calmo runs the business, and its Thumbtack profile puts it at 11 years in business with a 4.9-star average across 31 ratings, 97% of them five stars. The five detailed accounts on file are almost entirely about masonry and stucco. In a 2025 review, one homeowner described a basement foundation wall where the mortar had disintegrated with holes going clean through to the outside; Calmo gave a fair quote, worked around an urgent timeline, and repointed and cleaned the wall. A separate 2025 review credits the crew with repairing bricks in a set of steps and a section of blue stone, calling the pricing more than fair and noting they showed up on time and cleaned up after themselves. Further back, a 2023 review described stucco repairs, including woodpecker holes patched to match the original finish, plus a patio and walkway releveled to keep weeds from coming back. More recently, two 2026 reviews describe removing busted stair tiles and replacing them with concrete and stucco, and a general recommendation for masonry and painting work. A recurring thread across the reviews: reasonable pricing paired with real craftsmanship, and a habit of cleaning up thoroughly before leaving. None of the accounts on file describe a callback for redone work or a scheduling problem. Worth knowing before calling: Thumbtack's own star breakdown shows a small sliver of critical feedback, about 3% of its 31 ratings sit at one star, though none of the detailed accounts on the profile describe what went wrong there. And while the business's name and its Thumbtack category list both include painting work, every one of the detailed customer accounts is about masonry, brick, or stucco, worth confirming directly if a painting job is what's being hired for. For a foundation crack, a crumbling brick step, or stucco damage, this is a crew with a specific, well-documented track record in Malden and the surrounding area. Calmo was a great hire. He was easy to work with, friendly and did a very good job. I recommend others call and hire him to do their masonry and painting.. He did whatever he promised, and went the extra mile to be helpful....great guy....very reasonable in every way.
Guillermo did a great job removing our busted stair tiles, replacing them with concrete/stucco. Would work with him again (and probably will!)
We had Calmo help us with a masonry job on our basement foundation wall where the mortar had disintegrated and even had holes going through to the outside. He gave us a fair quote, was able to accommodate our urgent timeline, and did an excellent job cleaning everything up and repointing. The work looks great, and he's also a genuinely nice guy. Highly recommend
They just finished repairing bricks in my steps and my blue stone, They also did work in my back yard. If you're looking for a great masonry small or big jobs, call these guys first. You won't have to reach out to anyone else. There price was more than fair, shows up on time, cleans any mess they make. This was a great find and I intend to keep using them. This is one of the times where you wish you can leave more than 5 stars because that's how good they are.
Highly recommend Guillermo for anyone's projects, large or small. He is responsive, honest, fair, punctual, versatile, and does an incredible job! He first fixed several stucco damages including woodpecker holes on my wall. It looks just like original afterwards. He also noticed that my patio and walkway was uneven and weeds grew in the joints. He proposed a solution to remove current weeds, redo the tiles to level them, and apply Polymeric Sand to prevent future weeds. The finished project looks amazing. Strongly recommend!
