Capeway Roofing is a commercial and industrial roofer, not a house roofer. From Westport it works across New England on schools, public safety buildings, warehouses and malls, in low- and steep-slope systems — TPO, PVC, EPDM, modified bitumen, built-up, slate, copper, asphalt and wood shingles — and runs its own metal shop fabricating roofing panels on site to any length. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active in the company's name. The BBB records the business as started in 1984, incorporated in Massachusetts in 1986, with 100 employees and Joseph Calheta as president; the company itself dates its work in New England from 1986.
The professional record is genuinely strong. Sika gave it a Project of the Year award for helping Annie E. Fales Elementary School become the first net-positive energy public school in Massachusetts, and a 2022 trade article named it one of Sika Sarnafil's Elite Partners Club contractors. Professional Roofing recorded it taking third place in Sarnafil's 2004 applicator Project of the Year for Connecticut College's Luce Field House, and citing it again in 2006 for safety solutions on the same job. In 2023 Building Design + Construction described it installing a 48,000-square-foot GAF TPO roof on The Revington, a 228-unit apartment building in Worcester's Canal District, hired by general contractor Plumb House. Public work is steady: the Town of Reading awarded it the Parker Middle School roof replacement at $1,360,700, Fall River gave it the Main Library roof replacement in 2019, Pittsfield's Springside House roof was done for $245,800 in 2021, and Providence recommended it as sole bidder on a $191,000 school roof in 2016.
The public compliance record is the other half. Violation Tracker records a $10,796 federal penalty from the Labor Department's Wage and Hour Division for a wage-and-hour violation under the Davis-Bacon Act. OSHA publishes two inspection records for the company, one at its Westport address and one at a Vineyard Haven site closed in January 2024, and the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission has a decision in Secretary of Labor v. Capeway Roofing Systems, Inc. arising from an inspection of a firehouse under construction in South Weymouth.
Direct customer accounts are few and mostly unhappy. Google shows 4.3 stars from 21 ratings but only five written reviews. In March 2025 a one-star reviewer said their father hired the company to reroof his restaurant and got a half-finished job, a large mess, crew members they described as drunk and belligerent, and equipment operated by staff they believed were not DOT-certified. Two further 2025 reviewers, in April and October, complained about company trucks driving dangerously on the highway rather than about any job.

Ask directly about the OSHA and wage findings, ask who supervises the crew on your site, and note that the sheet-metal licence published on the company's own website shows an expiration date of 4 January 2025 while still labelled current.
