Cardoso Electrical Services has been running out of Wakefield since 2004 -- the company says it started as OPC Electric a decade before incorporating -- and today covers commercial, residential and industrial electrical work across Massachusetts, with stated coverage into New Hampshire and Vermont and 24/7 emergency service. Oscar Cardoso's Massachusetts electrician license (#18196) checks out active against the state registry, and the company holds an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau, though it isn't a BBB-accredited business. Building-permit records on BuildZoom show 73 electrical projects, mostly in Brookline, Chestnut Hill and Belmont and mostly valued under $20,000 -- steady residential rewiring and panel work rather than headline commercial jobs. The written record from actual customers is thin: just two Google reviews, sitting at 3.4 stars across 8 ratings overall. The one that carries real weight is a detailed 2023 complaint calling the company overpriced and slow to finish, describing a job that dragged on for weeks past what was promised and wasn't done right. The other review, from 2022, isn't really about the electrical work at all -- it describes a near-miss with a company van and an apology from the driver. Before booking, it's worth asking directly about pricing and a firm completion timeline, given the one detailed account on record raised both. BuildZoom's own listing is a little confusing on licensing -- it shows two 'active' entries for #18196 alongside an alert about no active license on file -- but that reads like a directory quirk; the state itself lists the license as current. For straightforward electrical work -- wiring, panel service, fire alarm and hot water heater installs, the kind of jobs its BBB profile lists -- Cardoso is a long-running, state-licensed local option. With so few independent accounts to go on, a written estimate and timeline up front is the sensible move.
“Oscar Cardoso of Cardoso Electrical Services is not the most professional electrician you can hire. The services are deemed overpriced, often delayed, and unreliable. Customers frequently encounter broken promises. It’s advisable to steer clear of this company, comprised of individuals displaying rudeness and arrogance. Once under contract, the completion of the job is unnecessarily prolonged, often taking weeks or even months, and the work is seldom done correctly.”
I was on my way home when one of their vans almost hit me had I not swerved out of the way. I was in the middle of leaving a one star review when this mans pulled up next to me and apologized. (Even after I flipped him off) Thought he was gonna tell me off, pleasantly surprised with the professionalism shown.
