Carpet Trades has been selling and installing flooring out of a Melrose showroom since 1970, by its own account, and the two written reviews on file — both from 2017 — describe a shop that goes out of its way when things go sideways. In one 2017 review, a customer described being abandoned mid-project by a Home Depot installation crew, left with a damaged carpet and furniture scattered through the house and a two-week wait for a reorder; after explaining the situation at Carpet Trades, the shop installed a new carpet the very next day and the customer called the job flawless. Another 2017 review credits the owner, David DeVartamian, with walking a wary customer — already burned by two other vendors — through carpet options in about half an hour, then having an installer on-site within three days. The Better Business Bureau carries an A+ grade for the company, though it is not a BBB-accredited business, and its listing repeats the carpet, tile, vinyl, hardwood, cleaning and custom-rug work the shop advertises on its own site. The company names Melrose, Wakefield, Stoneham, Saugus and Malden as its service area. Both of the detailed customer accounts on file date to 2017, so there's no way to speak to how the shop is running today — worth asking about recent jobs before booking, since nothing on file addresses current pricing either. For a carpet or flooring job in the Melrose area, the track record that does exist is specific about installation quality and problem-solving under pressure.

I have recently had Carpet Trades install a bedroom carpet. Having been abandoned by the Home Depot carpet install team after my new rug was damaged by the installers prior to install. I was left with a damaged carpet and furniture scattered over my house with a two week wait for a reorder. I visited Carpet Trades and explained my situation and they were very accommodating and installed a new carpet the next day. The installer was on time , and completed the job flawlessly . In the future I will utilize their services again . I was completely satisfied in the customer service I received and have learned the valuable lesson to visit a carpet professional for a professional job. I would strongly recommend Carpet Trades to any who are looking for flooring install needs
After two prior negative experiences with other vendors, four friends highly recommended Carpet Trades and its owner, David DeVartamian, to me. I was very hesitant due to my past experiences. To my surprise, David offered me everything I had been looking for...very knowledgeable about the pros and cons of all carpet types, able to identify two sample charts that he thought might meet my needs after asking me qustions about my preferences, all in about one half hour. It was an amazing experience! David's installer was at my home within three days and he did an incredible installation. He was prompt, neat and very personable. His techniques were flawless. At the end of the day, he vacuumed every inch of the rug and left nothing behind, hauling away all of the trash. He even stayed behind to adjust a patio door that had been giving me difficulty. I feel very fortunate to have found these two gentlemen. It was a pleasure to do business with them. I highly recommend them, and I would use them again in the future.
