Sixty-odd Google reviews in, and one name carries almost all of them: Nick. Carvalho & Sons works out of Dracut, where the company says co-founder and president Nick Carvalho runs daily operations, and it sells and installs fence — custom cedar is its stated specialty — alongside hardscaping like patios, walkways and walls. The fence side is where the record is deepest and most consistent. A homeowner this April whose fence had rotted and fallen over said Nick replied the same day, came out to inspect and measure the next, and helped choose both the fence and the materials to go underneath it — new fence up within three weeks. Another in April credited him with working through town conservation rules and watching the weather before scheduling. A May reviewer who collected several quotes said his came in as good as or better than the rest, and that the crew pulled the old fence and set the new one quickly. The hardscaping side carries the real caution. A 2-star reviewer hired them for a large retaining-wall project quoted at two weeks that ran past three months, and reported a final bill about $16,000 over the quote, along with fill debris trucked in from another job site. A separate 1-star complaint described repeated unreturned calls when trying to order a 50-foot fence addition through a landscaper. Both are older than the recent stretch, and the last six months show no negative reviews — but the shape of the complaint is worth noting: the trouble showed up on the big, multi-week jobs and on follow-up after the sale, not on the standard fence install. So: get the quote in writing with a written scope, and for anything larger than a fence run — retaining walls, patios, excavation — pin down what triggers a change order and who you call when the schedule slips. Ask specifically about fill material and where it comes from. For a straightforward residential fence, pool enclosure or dog run, this is a well-reviewed local outfit with a real yard of materials behind it. For a large hardscape build, the same care you'd apply to any general contractor applies here.

Shopped around with a bunch of fence people. Went with Nick. He was as good if not better than the other quotes we received. Very easy to deal with. His crew took care of removing the old fence and getting the new one up quickly. Very happy with the final product.

Nick and team were wonderful to work with! From the responsiveness, to the care the guys took in their work and craft, the entire team made us feel comfortable and confident throughout the process. Nick was helpful in navigating town conservation laws, thoughtful about installation, constantly monitoring weather conditions, and verifying details more than once. We had a great experience with Carvalho and would recommend them to anyone wanting to install a fence.

Within 3 weeks I had a new and beautiful fence!! A side of my fence rotted and fell over, and I contacted Nick. He replied the same day, and came to inspect and measure the next day. He helped me pick out the best type of fence and materials for underneath. He was SO KIND and professional. His team were incredibly polite and speedy, and explained everything I asked about. Highly recommend and I'll use the company again when the rest of my fence falls over! Thanks Nick amd team! :D

Had about 300 feet of 6’ privacy fence install from a different company. Install came out great and was very happy. We had a lot of ground work down and probably should have waited a season to install the fence because the ground settled and we got separation in the fence. I don’t blame the fence company at all. Where they fell short is when I called them to have them come fix it. I told them I was willing to pay whatever it was going to cost to have it fixed. They came out one time to look at it and told me they would get me on the schedule. Almost a year later and multiple phone calls and still nothing. I finally had someone recommend Nick so I gave him a call. He came out within a couple days and less than a week later my fence is all fixed. If I could go back I would have had him do the original install and will definitely be using his company in the future for many other projects. Thank you Nick.
