Certified Roofing Systems

Certified Roofing Systems is a Newton-based roofing contractor that has grown into a multi-state commercial operation — the company's own site describes offices across Massachusetts, New Jersey, Kansas, and Florida, focused on fluid-applied, energy-efficient commercial roofing backed by 20-year manufacturer warranties. Locally, though, its reputation was built job by job on flat and pitched residential roofs, from full replacements to same-day leak patches. The volume of praise is hard to overstate: 123 Google reviews average 4.9 stars, and dozens of five-star write-ups from 2022 and 2023 repeat the same beats — a quick response to an inquiry, a crew that shows up on time, and a clean site when they leave. Reviewers name Ryan and Dion Gaines specifically and often enough that the two read as the faces of the company; one commercial customer whose flat rubber roof had drainage and seam problems credited Dion directly with walking through the repair options before the crew started. The Better Business Bureau gives the company an A+ grade, and even the smaller HomeAdvisor sample — 35 ratings — sits at 4.6 stars. That said, the written record isn't spotless. A 2021 reviewer described signing a quote and then being unable to reach the company again after a promise that a crew would arrive "in a few days." A 2013 HomeAdvisor review told a smaller version of the same story: a skylight leak fix that seemed solved at first but needed a callback, with the customer downgrading an original five-star rating to 1.5 stars once the full picture played out. Both are worth asking about directly — specifically how the company handles a return visit if a repair doesn't hold. One more thing worth confirming before signing anything: the company's Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, verified against the state registry, is currently expired. That doesn't erase years of well-documented local work, but it matters for a job that falls under HIC licensing. For a roof repair, a full replacement, or a leaking flat roof that needs diagnosing fast, Certified Roofing has a long local track record to point to. Confirm the current license status and get callback terms in writing before the crew shows up.
