In September 2026 an organization's reviewer described Clar renovating the main floor and major systems of an 1870s building — walls removed, a kitchen installed, air sealing and insulation, heat pumps, an EV charger, painting — completed on time and within budget. In August 2026 two senior citizens had 8 windows replaced by Silas and Rob, who told them about rotting exterior boards, which were fixed and painted. In an October 2025 review, an 1850s house got a kitchen, bathroom, mud room and sun room renovation, rewiring, plumbing, window replacement and the entire roof, and the reviewer wrote that Dan was very transparent about the extra cost and build time. In a June 2025 review, Dan remodeled a 1904 Montpelier house while the owners lived abroad, with lead carpenter Jared as onsite manager. In March 2025 a Google reviewer wrote that the project cost more than expected, "but that was because I didn't know what things really cost." In a February 2025 review, a customer described extra plumbing and electrical costs, a broken discontinued countertop and handpainted tiles that went awry, and wrote that a second project was then underway. Outstanding Craftsmanship and a Wonderful Working Relationship! We have been working with Clar Construction since 2019, and our experience has been exceptional. They beautifully remodeled the 1953 Cape-style house where I grew up, preserving its character while bringing it up to date with thoughtful improvements and outstanding craftsmanship. Over the years, Clar has continued to help us with a variety of projects, and we have always appreciated their professionalism, attention to detail, and commitment to high-quality work. Just as important is the wonderful working relationship we have developed. They are reliable, easy to communicate with, and genuinely care about doing things right. It means a great deal to me to see my childhood home so beautifully maintained and improved. We have complete confidence in Clar Construction and highly recommend them to anyone looking for exceptional quality and a contractor they can trust. I should add that most of the work was done while I was across the country. Jared took photos and wrote detailed notes daily during the construction. The planning meetings with Dan took place via Zoom. I was able to come to Vermont to choose materials, plumbing fixtures, hardware, etc. but most of our work together happened long distance. When I first started looking for a contractor, I searched for "Best Contractors in Vermont" online. I'm so glad that Clar Construction was on the list and that I chose them to do this job.
We hired Clar to assist us in residing a portion of our home. In that process, the project plan required some shifting and rescoping. The Clar team, notably Jared and Bear, were so helpful and thoughtful in guiding us through this process. Their expertise and professionalism was invaluable. They worked with us to properly re-scope the project to work within our budget and fit within our long-term goals for our home, answering each of our questions fully and promptly. Their team is very friendly and always left our home clean at the end of the day. Through this project, we feel that we gained a partner that understands us, our home, and our vision for it. We greatly enjoyed working with the Clar team and would fully recommend them!
My organization worked with Clar Construction to renovate the main floor and major systems of our 1870s building to be a hub for meetings, trainings, and organizing for decades to come. They helped us through the design stage and created the visuals we needed to fundraise for our project. They did all the work of getting contractors lined up to do the work during a specific time frame. That included removal of walls, installation of room dividing glass door, installation of kitchen, renovation of rear entry, attic air sealing and insulation, basement air sealing and vapor barrier installation, heat pumps and EV charger installation, exterior painting, and interior painting/carpeting/finishes. They completed the project on time and within the budget we laid out. They are professional, responsive, and do high-quality work. We were very pleased with the experience working with them. My favorite feature of their work was the Log they shared with photos of progress on the renovations. It was so cool to see how quickly they transformed our vision into reality.
We had 8 windows replaced, including 3 doubles. The work looks terrific. We really liked the two young men who did the work, Silas and Rob. Everything was done very professionally. And as two senior citizens who cannot do what we might previously have done ourselves, we valued the fact that they told us about things they saw. One proved not to be a problem, but rotting exterior boards was a problem. Fixed and painted.
