Cleghorn Oil offers home heating oil delivery, according to its BBB listing, and its website lists automatic delivery, heating and cooling equipment installations, oil tank installations and service plans. The company says it has been in business for 103 years. A 2026 customer said Cleghorn Oil had been delivering to them for 8 years and that orders placed ahead always arrived within the promised time frame. That 2026 customer said that after they ran out of oil overnight, the company squeezed them into its winter schedule and came right on time, and that the technician was professional and courteous. A 2023 customer said they had been a customer since '89. A 2024 customer said they called on a Saturday because their furnace was creating black smoke that set off their fire alarms. In that 2024 account, a tech called back within 10 minutes, said he was in Rhode Island, and said someone else could come the next day. A 2025 customer objected to the company charging to have someone measure the oil left in the tank when selling a house. A wbjournal.com article names Cleghorn Oil as a subsidiary of Peterson Oil and says customers of Peterson Oil and its subsidiaries would be eligible to collect from a $14 million settlement fund if the proposed deal is approved.

Cleghorn Oil has been delivering to me for 8 years now - I always get it delivered within the promised time frame whenever I order ahead. Today, I ran out of oil overnight and they naturally weren't sure if they'd make it to me for same day service - seeing that a bunch of us unprepared folks that don't have automatic delivery and neglect to faithfully check our levels had run out as well. I therefore understood if they couldn't make it - I'd just be baking all night long to keep our house warm!🤭 Well, Cleghorn Oil managed to squeeze me into their busy Winter schedule and came right on time. The technician was professional, courteous and didn't sound inconvenienced at all! I am beyond grateful. I wish this guy the best luck in everything he does - just bags of money at his doorstep, wins on every scratch ticket, good health and the best of friends/family. We will be warm tonight and this Winter - thank you again. P.S. We won't run out again, I promise! 😊
I think it's pretty lousy for a company to charge $150 to have someone come out to measure how much oil left in the tank if you are selling your house seems extremely unfair
I called on a Saturday (1/21/2024) because my furnace was creating black smoke to the point that it was setting off my fire alarms. Within 10 minutes a tech called me back. (Ryan or Bryan) and basically he told me that he was in Rhode Island and that it would take him 1 hour and 45 minutes to get to me and there was a fee of $300 because I don't have the Deluxe plan. I mentioned that I was willing to pay, the fee and any other associated fees because of the severity of the situation. He couldn't stress enough that he was really far and that someone else could come tomorrow (Sunday) for the same fee, and that I should be ok until then. The man didn't want to drive out regardless of my concerns and the terrible smell of burning. Why have incompetent emergency services for? Why did he take this position if he cannot commit to the job he's being paid for? We have children in our home and it was an excruciatingly cold night. The sense of abandonment is unbearing and I worry this individual will do the same to other families.
