The most telling review of Connolly Management Group is the one where Chris Connolly said no. A Cambridge condo owner writing in July 2023 described interviewing several design-build firms about a difficult staircase; the first thing Connolly did was measure floor to ceiling and tell her he could not realistically promise what she had described, while others "simply insisted that it would be possible, no problem." She hired him for that. He then modelled several alternatives and cleared them with the Cambridge building inspector in advance, and ran the whole three-month job while she lived out of state. That pattern repeats. Another owner renovated an entire condo through the pandemic over texts and FaceTime, receiving near-daily updates and, at one point, a live video call from a tile showroom. A homeowner who had a stone wall built said she trusted the crew enough to travel while they worked. The jobs themselves sit at the structural end of remodeling: an attic converted with a full bathroom added, a detached garage, a sunroom and deck with a custom bar top, a Medford primary-suite addition, basements finished around a fixed leak and turned into home gyms. Permit records add $130,000 of windows and siding in Dunstable and rear dormers in Waltham. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, 185587, is active in the state registry, and the company is EPA lead-paint certified with Best of Houzz awards every year from 2015 to 2023. Two things worth knowing. Houzz shows fifty-one ratings, all five stars, and they are the only ratings anywhere — BuildZoom's profile of the same company has none. And the newest reviewer, writing in July 2026 about a basement that involved plumbing below the septic line, offered a practical warning: the project "did cost quite a bit," and if yours is time sensitive, "make that very clear up front and ask for frequent updates." A good fit for a substantial, multi-trade renovation you want run properly, especially one you cannot supervise in person. Houzz puts typical jobs at $25,000 to $1,000,000 plus, so establish the scope and the schedule in writing before you start.
Chris Connolly and his company refurbished our basement, and our experience was extremely positive. There was a lot going on in this project. We removed a closet that was under the stairs and replaced it with a second bathroom (which we needed in order to renovate the bathroom upstairs). Critically, this second bathroom was below the septic line, so a significant amount of plumbing work was required. We also replaced the stairs, which were basically falling apart, and put down a floor. Finally, we took some bookshelves that my grandpa was working on before he passed away and had them installed on one of the walls, purposely leaving them slightly unfinished. The stairs in particular were very well done. Chris hires an excellent finishing carpenter, the same guy who worked on the bookshelves. A couple of things I thought were very good: they made excellent suggestions on what to do throughout the project, and they were more than happy to come back and make small touch-ups on minor stuff we discovered while actually using the things they made. That was very helpful. The project did cost quite a bit, but it was understandable given how many different kinds of work needed to be done. One note for anyone planning something similar: if your project is time sensitive, make that very clear up front and ask for frequent updates. Chris communicates well over text, so it's easy to stay in the loop once you set that expectation. The final product was perfect, no complaints. The basement is excellent; this is exactly what we wanted.
We hired Chris to remodel our bathrooms, our basement and our laundry room. Our basement renovation included fixing a problem leak. Our basement required required some extra work, but Chris successfully fixed the leak and he turned part of the space into an amazing home gym! Chris also built a portico for our front entrance, and this made a huge difference for curb appeal. Chris was easy to work with, responsive to questions and had great attention to details. He had useful recommendations along the way for each space. All the tradespeople that he hired were high quality. Everyone arrived on time and if there were issues we were notified in a timely manner. We are thrilled with the results and we would recommend him for any project!
We hired Chris to add a sunroom and deck to our house. From the beginning, he was easy to contact and communicate with. We were always kept in the loop on the status of the project and his attention to detail was top notch. He even worked with us on adding a custom bar top to our deck that our neighbors can’t stop talking about! We will be reaching out to him for our next project!
I hired Chris to build my detached garage. Throughout the process it was a real partnership. He was very thorough, focused on the detail, kept a clean job site and always communicated with me. The scope of the project changed along the way and Chris did a great job being creative, accommodating and very thoughtful with recommendations. Since the big project we've hired Chris to do some interior finish work along with some smaller jobs around our home and as always, the work was excellent and at a fair price. He's an honest, hardworking, good contractor and has a real talent for finish work along with an eye for detail. Overall, I could not recommend him more highly.
Chris Connolly was wonderful to work with. He continually updated me on the status of scheduling my project, completed it in the timeframe as promised, and did an excellent job overall. I recommend him highly.
