The biggest job in Pete's Construction's file is a colonial that grew by roughly 30 percent. Writing in December 2019, the owners listed it out: the house lengthened, extended out the back, the kitchen expanded, a three-season porch, two new bedrooms, the living room stretched with an extra room off it, cellar and attic expanded, landscaping at the end. That is the top of the range Peter Soares' Methuen company works at — and the same outfit turned up in May 2018 to replace one homeowner's busted storm door. Basements come up as often as anything. A 2018 client said theirs felt like an extension of the house rather than a typical finished basement. A 2020 client described design-to-completion work with Pete managing every subcontractor. A June 2023 review covers a basement renovation with a three-quarter bath, and credits him with absorbing several changes along the way. Bathrooms and kitchens are the steady work. A January 2021 client had a master bath finished in three weeks. A March 2018 client had the kitchen and bathroom redone while living in the house, and noted the crew cleaned up every day and arrived when they said they would. Outdoor work shows up too: a pool deck and patio in 2020, and in 2019 a worn porch and deck rebuilt in composite, where the owners took Pete's suggestion to cantilever the larger deck for extra usable space. The company's Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, number 184633, is active on the state registry. It also self-lists an unrestricted construction supervisor licence (109805), OSHA 30, Lead RRP and CPR certification on Houzz — its own statements rather than credentials anyone has confirmed. It has been BBB accredited since 2017 at an A+ grade. Two notes about currency rather than quality. The newest customer account on file was posted in June 2023. And the permit record — twenty projects in all, from $900 to $95,000, mostly in Methuen with jobs in Topsfield, Littleton, Lowell and Haverhill — shows one permitted project in the past three years. The business works both sides of the border, with a Windham, New Hampshire headquarters alongside the Methuen address. For an addition, a basement or a full bath, this is a general contractor whose clients consistently describe him running the trades himself rather than handing them off. Ask what he has finished in the last year, and get the subcontractor schedule written into the contract.

Pete and his crew are absolutely amazing. We did a basement renovation job including 3/4 bathroom and we could not be happier. Start to finish super easy to deal with, very transparent and communicative, fair, honest, and very very high quality work. Pete dealt with multiple changes on my part and delays in some unique parts arriving for our job that were my fault and more. Took it in stride and managed through the changes with ease and patience. Pete and the guys also uncovered some other stuff that needed fixing/repair while doing the existing job and did a phenomenal job fixing it despite being outside the scope of our project. Super thoughtful and imaginative and honestly more than just a contractor, he has a design oriented mind and sees things in ways that are very helpful. Simply just a really great experience and I will be getting in line to work with Pete again soon!

The following is our attempt to summarize what is beyond words a what great job Pete's crew did. We just had a major expansion done by Pete's construction to our colonial house. House was lengthened as well as expanded out the back to increase space by about 30%, kitchen expanded, 3 season porch added, 2 new bedrooms added with living room lengthening as well as creation of an extra room off of it with full cellar and attic expansion. Landscaping was also done at completion. To begin, we were told if any subs ever gave us a problem to let Pete know right away and this would be addressed. Well, every single sub and worker treated us like family! Workmanship, people skills and the way everyone carried themselves was excellent! Any questions were answered respectfully, no swearing on the job, they had no problem with using the porta potty either. All trash from construction was carted away on a regular basis so did not have to have a dumpster stored on the property. Attention to detail was more than one would expect. For example, before siding was applied, liquid flashing was used on the lower section to stop backsplash rot as well as insect/mouse penetration. Interior and exterior were all as square and perfect as could be. Even the gutter installer stated he had never seen such a perfect job with everything squared up text book perfect. Another quality we observed was the way Pete mentored and trained some of the younger workers on tasks they had not done before. Pete also took great pains to be sure all safety precautions were taken to protect the workers while working on the job. Additionally, everything was always cleaned up at the end of the day within reason since this was a roughly 5 month work in progress at the time. On a different more long term note, the house was so well insulated and sealed that, so far, October thru November, my wood burning insert meant to only the family room, was able to produce enough heat that the gas heat usage was actually cut in half from the previous year. Of course the heating system and hot water tank were updated too. However, the fact that I haven't had a chance to put up shades or insulate the pipes in the basement yet and the fact that house is 30% larger and has a roughly 50% reduction in heating costs speaks volumes to the detail in construction and insulation taken. Pete was also excellent at listening to our input throughout the project. Although he would do anything we asked, if we proposed something that wouldn't be in our best interest, he would very politely explain the issues and let us have the final word. In summary, we would highly recommend Pete's Construction to anyone looking to do any type of work on a house if they want the job done correctly and done to last. If one's main concern is price and one doesn't care about the work lasting or looking perfect they need to look elsewhere. We would definitely seek Pete out again if we had need for future work.
