In a March 2026 review, one described meeting him at a friend's cookout in late July and having an entire heating and cooling system replaced and a second-floor shed dormer framed on by early January. Custom Builders works out of 5 Welker Way in Bellingham, and BuildZoom lists Bradley Wright as its owner. The company says it was set up to use better materials and workmanship on every project, and that it has built to ENERGY STAR standards from the beginning. Houzz puts a typical job between $50,000 and $2 million — a useful filter, because the work people describe is the big kind: houses from the foundation up, in-law additions, whole-floor renovations. Budget is the thread that runs through the reviews. A 2024 client who redid a kitchen wrote that he "stayed within budget"; another, writing that February about a new home built while they lived in another state, said the work was done in the time estimated and within budget. A homeowner reviewing in February 2024 picked him for a 1,000-plus-square-foot in-law addition after weighing four bids in total, choosing him as much for how he handled the pre-construction conversation as for his price. The most telling account is a February 2024 one from a couple who bought their house from Custom Builders in 2016 while it was still under construction, then kept hiring the company for years afterward. That pattern repeats: the kitchen client came back a few years later for a run of smaller jobs, and the 2026 reviewer is already planning a garage. A 2024 buyer of one of his new colonials described him as informative about his build process and his vendors — the sort of thing that only matters, and only gets written down, when the build goes long. Two things to settle before signing. The whole written record sits on one platform: all eight reviews are Houzz, averaging 5.0, and BuildZoom's profile of the company carries none at all. And the licence numbers here are directory listings rather than confirmations — Houzz shows a construction supervisor licence CSL 060671 and a home improvement contractor registration HIC 210627, and BuildZoom lists that same HIC number, which it says was issued in December 2025. Ask for both numbers and check them yourself at the state's Consumer Affairs registry before any money moves; HIC registration is what gives a homeowner access to the Guaranty Fund. This is the right call for someone planning a build or an addition large enough to want one person coordinating every trade, and who wants that person picking up the phone. Six of the eight reviews were posted in February and March of 2024, so ask for two or three recent references alongside those licence numbers.
