An 1867 Victorian in Old Wethersfield that had not been painted in decades: a recent customer said the job took in lead paint abatement, rebuilding the front porch, restoring the shutters and the original windows, and painting the exterior. Custom Colonial Painting is a house painter whose Connecticut home improvement contractor registration, held by Custom Colonial Painting LLC, is active on the state registry. The company says it has been in business 27 years. A recent customer with a 100-year-old home said they prepped, sanded and scraped it, then painted the clapboards, porches and doors. A recent customer said they sent a carpentry crew to replace clapboards and that the site was cleaned every night. A recent customer who has used them for more than ten years described extensive tarping and preparation before painting. A 2022 customer said a three-person crew spent about 4 days prepping a primary bedroom and bathroom, removing old wallpaper and painting from the ceiling to the closet shelving. A 2025 Reddit commenter said they hired them for interior work and that the prep, clean lines and smooth finish were worth paying extra for. A 2026 customer said cedar siding they stained in the fall of 2023 was peeling in large sections two years later, and that the owner refused to repair it, citing a two-year warranty. A 2025 customer said part of the house was painted a color that did not match the rest, and that the owner has since stopped returning calls. A 2024 customer said the house and trim were painted the incorrect color twice and that the paint was peeling a year later.
“I hired them for interior work and it was totally worth paying extra—the prep, clean lines, and smooth finish were way better than anything I could’ve done myself.”
We were impressed with every aspect of this restoration project. We met with AJ and he answered our questions and provided advice and thoughtful options. The painters crew was exceptional! They safely prepped, sanded, and scraped our home. The project manager and painters were professional, punctual, and paid attention to minute details. Our 100 year home now looks brand new! They painted the clapboards, porches, and doors. We are extremely happy with our newly painted home and would highly recommend this company.
Thank you Custom Colonial for sending out great thorough painters. They were very professional, clean, and efficient. I would highly recommend their services.
Had a great experience painting the exterior of my house with Custom Colonial Painting. They were very thorough and paid close attention to detail.
Alan and the team at Custom Colonial Painting were true professionals from beginning to end. I bought my aunt's house in Old Wethersfield last year. It is a beautiful 1867 Victorian but it hadn't been painted in decades. The team had to deal with lead paint abatement, rebuilding the front porch, restoring the shutters, and restoring the original windows, in addition to painting the exterior. The house looks so good that I got a call from Kim Wolf, Historic District Coordinator of Wethersfield, and she said "Your house looks awesome!" If that isn't a great endorsement, I don't know what is. I am thrilled. Don't hesitate. Hire these guys.
The crew did an excellent job cleaning the roof, replacing old boards, and painting the exterior of the house. They were very easy to work with and did a great job.
